SRA International Inc. (SRA), a provider of information technology
services to clients in U.S. federal government organizations, has
appointed Bob Evarts to the position of vice president. He joined
SRA in 1990 following his 21-year career in the U.S. Army. At SRA
he has served as project manager, deputy director and since 1999,
the director for the St. Louis Operations. In addition to receiving
the 2002, SRA Corporate Leadership Award, Evarts is the first person
at a regional office to be appointed to this position. Under Evarts
leadership include offices in Trenton, NJ, Hampton Roads-Tidewater,
Va., and St. Louis, to directly support national security, information
security, critical infrastructure assurance, and homeland security.
SRA employs more than 2,500 serving clients from its headquarters
in Fairfax, Va. with offices across the country.

The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis has installed Howard
Shalowitz, attorney, as president. He has served on the Board of
Governors of the Association since 1995, and was chair of its Lawyer
Referral and Information Service from 1992 to 2002. Shalowitz serves
as a volunteer lawyer for Legal Advocates for Abused Women and the
St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts. Shalowitz
began his own private practice after completing his law degree at
Washington University in 1987.

P. Kirk Warden, AIA, has been promoted to vice president at Clayco
Construction Co. He has served as Clayco’s director of design development
and as a project executive for Clayco Sports since joining the company
in 1997.
“Kirk has more than 24 years of architectural design and project
management experience, and we value the work he has completed for
Clayco over the past six years,” says Robert Clark, chairman and
CEO of Clayco.
Currently, Warden is the project executive for the Baltimore Ravens’
new 200,000-square-foot corporate headquarters and training facility
in Baltimore County, Md.

as interior designer.

Lighting Service Inc. announced that George Irwin, president, has
been appointed chairman of the Educational Committee for the international
Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO). Since 1995,
Irwin has served the organization in various capacities, including
vice president of the central region, program chair, treasurer and
board member. He currently serves as vice president and board member
for the organization.
Irwin will work with contractor and associate members to develop
technological, educational and safety programs for members, along
with future convention content.
NALMCO, established in 1953, is the industry’s association for lighting
professionals throughout the U.S. and Canada. Lighting Services
Inc. is a charter member of NALMCO.
BERGMANN NAMED ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL AT CANNON

Cannon Design has promoted Thomas Bergmann, AIA, to associate
principal.
Bergmann joined Cannon Design in 1994 and has provided design leadership
on numerous assignments for higher education and healthcare clients.
He served as project architect for the $320 million expansion and
renovation program at BJC Healthcare/Washington University Medical
Center and recently was honored by Modern Healthcare and the AIA
Academy of Architecture for Health.

Dr. Ann Boyle, of the Southern Illinois University School
of Dental Medicine at Alton, has been named dean of the school.
She was formerly associate dean of the program. Dr. Boyle was named
acting dean last year after Dr. Patrick F. Ferrillo Jr. accepted
the position of dean at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School
of Dental Medicine. At the time of his departure, Ferrillo had served
as dean of the SIU dental school for 16 years.
Dr. Boyle joined the SIU/SDM in 1995, serving as associate dean
since her arrival. She came to SIUE from Case Western Reserve University
School of Dentistry in Cleveland, where she had served as Chair
of the Restorative Department and then as Associate Dean for Academic
Affairs.

John Vallina has been elected vice chairman of the board of Cass

The nation’s first and oldest voluntary construction industry labor-management
organization, PRIDE, has named Scott Wilson as management co-chairman.
He joins Joseph Rinke as owner co-chairman, representing buyers
of construction services and Gerald Feldhaus, labor co-chairman,
representing the St. Louis Building & Construction Trades Council,
AFL-CIO.
Wilson replaces Robert Elsperman, P.E., who recently completed five
years of volunteer service as PRIDE co-chairman. He is president
of S.M. Wilson & Co. and current chairman of the St. Louis Associated
General Contractors organization. (AGC).
Founded in 1972, PRIDE, is an acronym for Productivity and Responsibility
Increase Development and Employment.
RUFFINO TO HEAD CLAYCO CONCRETE GROUP
Salvatore Ruffino is bringing his more than 23 years of construction
experience to Clayco Construction Co. Joining Clayco as a vice president,
Ruffino will head the company’s Concrete Group and spearhead the
expansion of the firm’s self-performed concrete work.
Ruffino comes to Clayco from Alberici Constructors, where he was
project manager/director responsible for nearly $2 billion of new
construction throughout the Midwest and on the East Coast. Ruffino
is best known in St. Louis for his work on the SAVVIS Center and
Edward Jones Dome, formerly the Kiel Center and TWA Dome, respectively,
as well as Ameristar Casino St. Charles, and the BJC/Missouri Baptist
Medical Center.

Scientist Thomas F. George has been named the seventh chancellor
of the University of Missouri–St. Louis, succeeding Chancellor Blanche
M. Touhill, who retired Dec. 31, 2002, and Interim Chancellor Donald
H. Driemeier. George is expected to assume his new position at UMSL
on Sept. 1, 2003.
As chancellor of the University of Missouri–St. Louis, Dr. George
will oversee all academic and administrative operations of the campus,
which had a Fall 2002 enrollment of 16,660 students and an extended
non-credit student population of nearly 100,000. He will report
directly to University of Missouri System President Elson Floyd,
who oversees the four-campus system.
For the past nine years, he has served as chancellor of the University
of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. Floyd chose George from a slate of finalists
developed by a 19-member campus search committee composed of faculty,
staff, students, alumni and supporters of UMSL. Douglas Smith, professor
and director of the Center for Business and Industrial Studies,
chaired the search committee, which, in addition to university officials,
included Urban League president Jim Buford; KCI Enterprise president
& CEO Karen Carroll; Suelthaus & Walsh, P.C. chairman Ken Suelthaus
and RCGA president and CEO Dick Fleming.
In addition to his role as campus and community leader and fund-raiser,
George is a professor of chemistry and physics and an active researcher
in the development of theories and mathematical techniques on computers
to describe phenomena in chemical/ materials/laser physics, with
applications to nanotechnology. He earned his master’s degree in
1968 and doctoral degree in 1970 in theoretical chemistry from Yale
University, followed by postdoctoral appointments at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology and the University of California at Berkeley.
Known at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point as the “students’
chancellor,” George has been highly engaged with students, faculty
and staff and has provided ready accessibility to constituents both
on and off campus. Prior to coming to Stevens Point in 1996, he
served for five years as provost and academic vice-president of
Washington State University. He and his wife Barbara are accomplished
musicians–he a jazz pianist and she a harpsichordist. The Georges
have chosen to live on campus at the chancellor’s residence.

Charles E. Jarrell Contracting has announced four promotions. Rick
Clary and Michael Jarrell, P.E., have been named senior vice presidents.
Vince Cutelli and Terry Helmsing have been promoted to vice president.
Clary joined the company in 1989 and has developed the service controls
division for Jarrell Contracting.
With the firm for more than 10 years, Jarrell’s responsibilities
include professional services, estimating and conceptual design.
Cutelli has been with Jarrell for more than seven years and remains
a senior project manager.
Helmsing has been with Jarrell since 1994 as a sales engineer and
project manager.
