St. Louis
Commerce Magazine is the region’s only monthly magazine about
St. Louis business, for St. Louis business. With our redesign, we
intend to better reflect the region’s diverse, vibrant, and increasingly
high-tech oriented business community. We also hope our new look
will make St. Louis Commerce even more pleasurable reading.
How fitting to introduce this new design in conjunction with the
St. Louis Regional Technology Top 50 Awards, which recognizes the
region’s Top 50 companies in the areas of Information Technology,
Plant and Life Sciences, and Advanced Manufacturing. This is the
seventh year that Deloitte & Touche and the RCGA have co-presented
these awards.
Monsanto is receiving the top honor—The Spirit of St. Louis
Technology Award—in recognition of its long-term commitment to the
community and sustained success in technology advancement.
There are two companies that have earned the outstanding distinction
of having been honored for all seven years—G. A. Sullivan
and The Mattson Jack Group. This is an amazing feat, particularly
given the challenging environment for technology firms in the past
two years. G.A. Sullivan’s average revenue growth over the past
five years was clocked at 243 percent and The Mattson Jack Group’s
revenue growth over the same period is an impressive 162 percent.
Almost as familiar are two six-time winners, Chemir/Polytech
and World Wide Technology. In fact, close to half of the
companies are repeat winners along with many newcomers.
This year’s Technology Top 50 totaled more than $6.8 billion in
revenue in 2001. The average five-year growth rate of the information
technology companies was 663 percent and, combined, these companies
spent more than $27 million on R&D last year. That’s quite a contribution
to the local economy.
On September 26, the 2002 St. Louis Regional Technology Top 50 rankings
will be announced at an awards ceremony and gala dinner at the St.
Louis Science Center.
The top winners may then move on to the national competition, FAST
500, which ranks the 500 fastest growing North American technology
companies. The Technology FAST 500 winners will be announced on
Business Wire on Oct. 16th. Winners will be invited to the annual
FAST 500 CEO Summit.
Last year, the St. Louis region boasted nine companies that made
the FAST 500: Charter Communications at 32, The Newberry
Group Inc. at 175, ViaSystems Group at 203, Access
US/Habañero at 362, Webster Group International at 369,
Rose International at 388, Maryville Technologies
at 425, DataServ at 466, and World Wide Technology at 486.
All but two of these companies has made the Top 50 this year and
will again be eligible for the FAST 500.
Join us in saluting this year’s St. Louis Regional Technology Top
50 and Spirit of St. Louis Technology Awards on September
26th.
