A fall 2001 completion date is nearing for Phase II of the 93-acre
O’Fallon Sports Park at 3589 Highway K. Byrne and Jones Construction
Co. began work on the $800,000 project in May. The project will
more than double the size of the park by adding eight soccer fields,
including four reduced sized fields for younger children. The contractor
is also building a connector bridge across Dardenne Creek to link
Phase I and Phase II, as well as a new 250-space parking lot and
expanded interior roadway system.

Tarlton Completes Seating Improvements for 2001 Muny Season
Above:
Tarlton Corp. completed renovation of The Muny’s 11,000-seat amphitheater
for the 2001 season.
Audiences attending the 2001 Muny season this summer enjoyed
seating and walkway improvements, part of the latest phase of the
renovation process that began in 1997 for one of the world’s largest
outdoor theaters. Tarlton Corp., a St. Louis-based general contracting
and construction management firm, completed the $3.7 million improvement
project in time for the beginning of the 2001 season in June. The
project brings Muny patrons new and more spacious seats, 115 wheelchair-accessible
spaces with companion seats, and more uniform walkways throughout
the seating sections.
Preparation work began last fall and encompassed an area approximately
80,000-square-feet in size. The focus was renewal for The Muny’s
bowl-shaped amphitheater, which had not undergone a major renovation
since its original construction in 1917. The project included limited
restoration of the aging concrete risers, stairs and walkways, the
addition of a complete concrete overlay, and installation of new
house lighting, handrails and 11,000 theater seats. The new seats
are wider and higher for comfort.
Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum was the project architect, and
Siebold, Sydow and Elfanbaum Inc. was the engineer.
