St. Louis Regional Clean Air Partnership Hosts Reception
Last Thursday, the Partnership hosted a reception at the St. Louis Science Center to kick off its “Community Development” effort. Beginning in 1995, the Partnership began recruiting companies and institutions from throughout the region to participate in employee awareness programs encouraging various pollution reduction strategies by individual employees in response to daily ozone forecasts. More than 400 local companies are currently participating in that process. The new community development effort focuses on proactive measures that can be taken, voluntarily, at the institutional level on a more routine basis. Examples of such programs include planned deferment of mowing and painting on poor air quality days, rescheduling of events (that could result in added traffic congestion) until after the ozone season, and the practice of refueling fleet vehicles later in the evening. As a result of the reception the Partnership now has names of more than 70 CEOs from local companies who have expressed interest in becoming actively involved in this effort. The RCGA is a founding partner of the Clean Air Partnership and wholeheartedly supports legislative and regulatory efforts to achieve federal air quality standards. The RCGA strongly encourages all members to consider participation. For further details, please contact Mike Alesandrini, RCGA director of Environmental Affairs, at 314/444-1144 or at drini@stlrcga.org.
