Insignia/ESG promotes James Dieter to national director of industrial operations

James Dieter has been named national director of industrial operations for Insignia/ESG. In Dieter’s 25 years of experience in industrial real estate, he has completed more than 250 transactions valued in excess of $500 million.

Dieter, who joined Insignia/ESG in 1997, has led the national expansion of the firm’s industrial brokerage services area, helping to develop its industrial presence and expertise in New Jersey, Phoenix and Philadelphia, while simultaneously entering the markets of Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta and Houston.

Prior to joining the company, Dieter managed industrial operations in Chicago for Frain Camins & Swartchild, which began as a five-person department. By 1997, he built the team into one of the most successful industrial operations in the nation. In 1998, Insignia/ESG acquired Frain Camins & Swartchild.

This year Dieter received the company’s Excellence Award, the firm’s highest achievement. Only one recipient is chosen annually from 3,800 employees worldwide. Dieter serves on the board of directors for the Chicago Chapter of National Industrial and Office Parks and is an active member of the Associations of Industrial Real Estate Brokers of Chicago and the Society of Industrial and Office Brokers.


Phillips-Selkirk announces new managing director

Phillips-Selkirk has appointed Mark Howald as managing director of its St. Louis salesroom. Howald previously held the title of executive vice president for Phillips-Selkirk and has been with the auction house for 15 years as a manager, appraiser and auctioneer. He is a frequent lecturer, media personality and charity auctioneer for numerous organizations.

Phillips, the third-largest auction house in the world, purchased Selkirk’s, the 160-year-old St. Louis house, last year. Howald plans to develop specialist sales, customer services initiatives and a Trust department. He replaces Kathleen Guzman, who became Phillips president in New York last January. Howald is a member of the Contemporary and Decorative Arts Societies at the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Asian Arts Society and is a resident of the Central West End.

Barclay joins Ziercher & Hocker, P.C. as principal

Christopher Barclay has joined the Clayton law firm of Ziercher & Hocker, P.C., as principal. Barclay specializes in the area of estate and income tax planning, as well as general business and commercial transactions. He is admitted to practice law in Missouri and Ohio.

Barclay is a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Missouri Bar, and has lectured frequently before the Missouri Bar and local accounting groups on estate and income tax planning.

Barclay is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He holds an L.L.M. in taxation from Washington University School of Law and a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Kentucky.


Creative Producers Group announces new addition, promotions and senior management structure

Keith Alper, president and executive producer of Creative Producers Group (CPG), has announced the addition of Lynn Jacobs as the company’s vice president of production services, a newly created position. Jacobs brings more than two decades of production experience to CPG, including 19 years with Maritz, Inc., where she served as executive producer of various multi-million dollar meetings, events and productions.

Alper also announced the promotion of Tracy Collins to senior vice president and creative director, and Dana King to vice president of sales and marketing. “These staff promotions and additions are the result of our strategic planning as it relates to our management and leadership structure,” Alper says. “The new structure will ensure that we maintain our unique creative and project management edge, ultimately to serve our clients better.”

In the company’s new structure, all creative areas will fall under the direction of Collins, a 10-year leader at CPG, who will continue to build on CPG’s creative team, award-winning products and future creative development. Jacobs will lead CPG’s newest area, the project and account services division. King, who has served as CPG’s director of sales for more than four years, will continue to lead the company’s sales team while setting a new direction for CPG’s client base, client services and strategic alliance.

Creative Producers Group is a full-service creative, production and marketing services agency that specializes in the development and production of events and meetings, electronic media and other creative services.


The Missouri River Otters name new general manager

United Sports Ventures, owner of the Missouri River Otters Professional Hockey Club, recently announced that Matt McSparin will replace Marty Nash as general manager of the team.

McSparin brings more than 15 years of sport marketing and management experience in various capacities. For the last four years he has served as president and owner of ’62 Sports Group, Inc., of which he still retains ownership. His sports career began in sales and accounting with the Chicago White Sox and includes time as the marketing manager of Ticketmaster–Chicago, as assistant baseball coach at Eastern Illinois University, marketing assistant with the St. Louis Cardinals and director of operations for McCann-Erikson Event Marketing. McSparin received his bachelor’s degree in communications from Augustana College and his master’s degree in sports management from Eastern Illinois University.

At ’62 Sports Group, a sport and event marketing company, McSparin developed an impressive group of clients that includes the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Ambush, Fox Sports Midwest, BJC Health Systems, St. Louis Sports Commission, The NCAA and Host Communications, Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks.

The Missouri River Otters will begin a 37 home game schedule in October in the new SSM Health Care Arena in St. Charles.


Gateway Energy Systems names Bruce Sabin chief operating officer

Gateway Energy Systems, LC, a joint venture between Ameren Corporation, Environmental Management Corporation and Energy Equities, LLC, has named Bruce Sabin chief operating officer. Gateway specializes in owning and operating energy and energy-related facilities, and relieves companies of the investment costs and operational demands of developing and operating utility facilities, freeing them to pursue core business strategies.

Sabin comes to Gateway after serving as city manager for the city of Town and Country. His experience also includes 14 years with Anheuser-Busch, where, in the last five years, he served as executive vice president and COO for Civic Center Corporation, the former stadium management, parking and real estate management firm of Anheuser-Busch.

Sabin holds a bachelor’s degree in social and community services from the University of Missouri–Columbia, a master’s degree in business management from Webster University and a master’s degree in business administration in marketing from Lindenwood University.


Missouri State Bank adds two new professionals to executive team

Missouri State Bank has named David Loeffelman to the position of senior vice president of operations and management information technology and Mark Sauerwein to the position of vice president of commercial lending.

Loeffelman has more than 25 years of banking experience; prior to joining Missouri State Bank, he acted as vice president of consumer information systems for Mercantile Bank. In his new position, Loeffelman will manage company operations, policies and procedures for the St. Louis-based institution.

Sauerwein held a variety of positions with Magna Bank prior to joining Missouri State Bank, including vice president of commercial lending, where he managed a commercial lending division with more than $120 million in outstanding commercial loans.

Ameren Corporation names vice president, tax counsel

The board of Ameren Corporation has elected Gregory Nelson vice president and tax counsel. Nelson is now responsible for the federal, state and local tax compliance and planning functions for the Ameren group of corporations. Nelson joined Union Electric Company, now known as AmerenUE, in 1995 as manager of the tax department.

From 1988 through 1995, Nelson was associated with the Washington, D.C. office of the law firm Reid & Priest, where he represented investor-owned electric utilities and the Edison Electric Institute in taxation matters. Prior to 1988, he served as a trial attorney with the Tax Division of the United States Department of Justice, where he specialized in civil tax litigation.

Nelson received his bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees from Vanderbilt University and a master’s of law degree in taxation from Georgetown University. He is a member of the Missouri, District of Columbia and Tennessee Bars.

HOK announces promotion of John Francis

John Francis has been promoted to vice president at Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum Inc., and is now responsible for the HOK Consulting office in St. Louis and for leading HOK Consulting assignments.

Francis is also responsible for the call center focus group within HOK; through this he has built an expertise in call center programming and design that is unique in the industry and recognized as groundbreaking. Additionally, he directs and guides team members towards completing assignments that are on schedule, on budget and meet the client’s requirements.

Francis received his bachelor’s degree in interior design from Kingston University in London. He managed design and consulting practices in Britain and Germany prior to moving to the U.S. in 1993. His international experience includes projects in the United Kingdom and Europe, Eastern Europe and Russia.



William McFarlane

McFarlane joins R.G. Brinkmann as vice president, operations

William McFarlane has joined St. Louis-based design/build general contractor R.G. Brinkmann Construction Co., Inc. in the newly created position of vice president of operations. McFarlane assumes management of the firm’s construction operations, working with Brinkmann project managers and superintendents on projects approaching $100 million in annual construction volume.

Prior to joining Brinkmann, McFarlane was vice president and division manager for Eby Construction Co. in Wichita, Kan. He has 27 years of project management and construction leadership experience with construction firms in the Midwest and West.

McFarlane earned his bachelor’s of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Kansas and his master’s degree in construction management from Stanford University.

Russell Scott joins Greensfelder

Russell Scott has joined Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, attorneys at law, as partner. Scott will work with the litigation practice group in the firm’s St. Louis office. Scott is a graduate of the Washington University School of Law, where he was a member of the law review.

Scott is licensed to practice in Illinois and Missouri and in the Federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. He is past president of the St. Clair County Bar Association and is active in the Illinois Bar Association, currently serving as a member of the board of directors of the Illinois Bar Foundation.

Scott lives in Belleville, Ill., where he serves as chairman of the board of the Fire & Police Commissioners of the city of Belleville. He is active in legal aid and pro bono circles and serves as chairman of the board of directors of the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc. In 1995, Scott received the John C. McAndrews Pro Bono Service Award from the Illinois State Bar Association.
