NEW BOARD MEMBERS
FOCUS St. Louis has selected officers and five new members for its volunteer board that sets policy for the organization. Officers for July 2008 through June 2009 are as follows:
- President: Deborah Patterson, president of the Monsanto Fund at Monsanto Company
- Vice president: William M. Carson Jr., vice president of operations strategy at McCormack Baron Salazar
- Vice president: Cynthia McCafferty, senior vice president and partner at Fleishman-Hillard Inc.
- Secretary: Bob Smith, managing director at Ascension Health
- Treasurer: Ann Ficken, general partner at Edward Jones
New board members are as follows:
- Dr. Zelema Harris, chancellor of St. Louis Community College
- Alan Ortbals, co-owner, vice president and chief operating officer at Illinois Business Journal
- Kathy Reeves, community relations manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car
- Jack Schreiber, president and chief operating officer for St. Louis at Commerce Bank
- Kathy Wehrfritz, vice president of institutional trust and custody at US Bank
In addition, FOCUS St. Louis welcomed two youth members who are recent graduates of FOCUS’ Youth Leadership St. Louis program: Grant Morton of Highland High School and Patricia Yang of Lafayette High School.

Karen Marino has joined SSE Inc. as vice president of sales. She has 20 years of executive experience in information technology services, most recently serving as president of service leadership.

St. John’s Mercy Health Care has named Ann Varner vice president of mission services. Previously Varner served St. John’s Mercy as director of patient relations and service, working with patients and families to improve patient satisfaction.
ENERGIZER CEO JOINS
ST. LOUIS FED BOARD
Ward M. Klein, CEO and a member of the board of directors of Energizer Holdings Inc., has been appointed to fill the unexpired portion of a three-year term on the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis’ board of directors. The term ends Dec. 31, 2008.
SWIC NAMES COSTELLO NEW COLLEGE PRESIDENT
Southwestern Illinois College’s board of trustees has appointed Georgia Costello president. From 2000-2005, she served as assistant superintendent at the St. Clair County Regional Office of Education, where she remained as a consultant to the regional superintendent before taking the position as SWIC’s president.
SCC NAMES GALBIERZ VP FOR ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES
St. Charles Community College’s board of trustees has appointed Todd Galbierz vice president for administrative services. He began working at the college in the spring and serves as chief financial officer. Prior to this position, Galbierz was the vice president of service for Public Safety Equipment.
LEVY PROMOTED AT GRAY DESIGN GROUP
Gray Design Group has promoted Jill Levy to director of design and development. She joined the firm in 2000 and brings 23 years of experience to her new role.
KUTZ NAMED NEW CFO AT SACHS PROPERTIES
Ami Kutz has been promoted to chief financial officer at Sachs Properties Inc. She joined the company in 1997 as an accounts receivable clerk and subsequently served as accounting manager and controller.

SEMS PRESIDENT OF MISSOURI BANKING
National City has appointed Richard Sems president of Missouri Banking. He has been with National City for more than eight years, most recently in charge of corporate strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions.
IMPACT GROUP HIRES BARNETT AND THOMPSON
IMPACT Group has hired accountant Max Barnett as chief financial officer and Bill Thompson as managing director of global services. Prior to joining IMPACT Group, Barnett was chief financial officer at Our 365. Thompson served as vice president of GMAC Global Relocation Services in London for the past 10 years.
RHCDA EXPANDS BOARD WITH TWO MEMBERS
The Regional Housing and Community Development Alliance has elected two new board members: Allan D. Ivie IV, president and chief operating officer for The PrivateBank, and Henry S. Webber, executive vice chancellor for administration and senior lecturer at Washington University.
Ivie, along with two partners, founded The PrivateBank in June 2006. Webber worked at the University of Chicago for 21 years before joining Washington University in March.
HUTCHISON JOINS FRONTENAC BANK
Kirk Hutchison has been hired as vice president and branch manager at Frontenac Bank. He will be responsible for retail and commercial business development at the bank’s new branch in Kirkwood, which is scheduled to open in late 2008. Kirk has 20 years in the banking industry, most recently serving as senior vice president at a start-up bank.
MCKENDREE NAMES BAHR NEW PROVOST
Christine M. Bahr joined McKendree University as its new provost. She is the former interim vice president for academic affairs at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana, where she worked since 1999.

BRYAN CAVE LLP
Thomas A. Schweich has joined the international law firm Bryan Cave LLP as of counsel in the firm’s St. Louis office. He was a partner at Bryan Cave from 1994 to 2004 and an associate from 1985 to 1993. Prior to re-joining the firm, Schweich served the Bush administration as ambassador for counternarcotics and justice reform in Afghanistan, as deputy assistant secretary of state for international law enforcement, and as chief of staff to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations.
MAUZÉ RETIRES AS CONSUL HONORAIRE DE FRANCE
St. Louis lawyer James F. Mauzé (Ottsen, Mauzé, Leggat & Belz LC) announced that he is retiring from his duties as the Honorary Consul to France after 17 years of service to pursue his law practice and other interests.
The French government has selected James A. Cooper to replace Mauzé. Cooper is co-founder and managing principal of St. Louis-based private equity firm Thompson Street Capital Partners.

Fry-Wagner Moving and Storage has promoted Dan Zessinger to vice president and general manager of its St. Louis branch facility. Zessinger most recently served as the vice president of global sales at the St. Louis facility.

The St. Louis Black Repertory Company’s board of directors has approved Richard J. Mark, senior vice president of Missouri energy delivery for AmerenUE, as president. He previously served the board as vice president.

Craig Glover has been named chairman of the board at Confluence Academy, a public charter school system in St. Louis. He is vice president and chief information officer for Grace Hill.

CHAPTER PRESIDENT
The Gateway Area Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society recently announced that Phyllis Robsham has filled the position of chapter president. Robsham previously served as executive vice president for the Gateway Area Chapter, where she has been for 15 years.
SCHENCK AND STEINBACH JOIN JONES LANG LaSALLE
Jones Lang LaSalle has hired Lynn Schenck and David Steinbach as executive vice president and vice president, respectively, of the firm’s markets group.
Schenck is a 28-year veteran of commercial real estate who previously worked at CBRE as senior vice president. Steinbach also comes from CBRE and has six years of tenant representation experience in Chicago and St. Louis. He has worked exclusively with Schenck for the past three years.
