Care giving for the elderly is a growing concern among corporations
as increasing numbers of employees find themselves spending more
time on elder-care issues. Now, RCGA members looking for solutions
can get help. Working with Marsh Advantage America - the insurance
benefits administrator for the RCGA - St. Andrews At-Home Services
is offering RCGA members the opportunity to provide its Silver
Solutions program to employees as part of their benefits package.
This program is an easy, no hassle approach for employers to help
employees address the care-giving issue. Benefits include:
on-site consultation to identify specific employee
care-giver issues and develop strategies to resolve them
care managers who help employees secure resources
and obtain counseling, as needed
supportive services to offer in-home help
placement services to assist in finding the right
long-term care facility
service coordination and monitoring to ensure services
are delivered and monitored on an ongoing basis to save employees
time and minimize work-time interruptions
the Select Provider Network, a tremendous resource
that allows easy access to a range of services and products from
pre-qualified providers, and more.
These services have been developed in response to research indicating
that care givers for the elderly account for 73 percent of early
departures and late arrivals at the workplace; make "long and
frequent" on-the-job telephone calls; have more mistakes, accidents,
conflicts and poor morale; have increased health problems; and
contribute to increased turnover rate.
"This translates into a workforce that has lower productivity
and increased costs for the employer, indicating a definite need
for a program like Silver Solutions," says Ann Bannes, vice president
of St. Andrew's home and community based services.
Initially, information about Silver Solutions is being sent to
RCGA members with 50 or fewer employees. "We perceive this to
be a very valuable product that the RCGA can make available to
companies of this size," notes Pam Ruckman, vice president of
plan administration for Marsh Advantage America. Other employers
