In recent years St. Louis has increasingly been identified as the “BioBelt,” The Center for Plant and Life sciences—in particular, on St. Louis companies, universities, and research institutions, which are contributing to the proposition of how the world can be fed nutritionally and in a more sustainable way environmentally.
Following on the September issue of
St. Louis Commerce Magazine, which took an in-depth look at agriculture and the St. Louis regional economy, this month’s cover story focuses on one of our region’s global leaders in the field; namely, Bunge Corp. and Brian Hook interviews Carl Hausmann, president and CEO of Bunge North America.
In addition to discussing Bunge’s growing role in the world of agriculture, Hausmann also affirms the fundamental brand proposition of the region, “Perfectly Centered, Remarkably Connected,” in talking about
St. Louis.
For the 6th consecutive year, Commerce once again partners with the Associated General Contractors of St. Louis, celebrating
the association’s annual Keystone Awards, which recognize construction excellence. Highlighting this year’s awards is a construction legend, I.E. Millstone, who is receiving AGC’s Heritage Award. At 101, this successful and respected entrepreneur is a recognized legend in the field of construction and real estate in St. Louis.
Accompanying the Keystone Awards is a set of related articles, including a look back at 2008, featuring leaders in construction; including Mike Zambrana, president, Pangea Group; Derek Glanvill, president and chief operating officer, McCarthy Building Group Inc.; Joe McKee, president, Paric Corp; Steve Schoemehl, business manager, Local One, IBEW; and Pat Kellett, business manager, Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local 562. This year’s Construction Roundup includes a companion look at “green” construction in
St. Louis; with Tracy Hart, president, Tarlton Corp; Daniel Jay, managing principal, Christner Inc.; and Clark Davis, vice chairman, HOK.
Staying on the subject of construction and real estate, this month’s Commerce features local designers who match décor with the mood of restaurants, and shares the perspective from regional leaders in home building and sales, noting that while the St. Louis market has fallen, it has dropped far less than the rest of the country. From a consumer’s perspective, the St. Louis market represents a “buyers market” in terms of value.
Also this month, St. Louis Commerce Magazine is pleased to be a media sponsor of a newly-launched entrepreneurial resource called StlSourceLink.com. Under the leadership of Frank Stokes, CEO of Innovate
St. Louis and Kevin Wilson, regional director for the University of Missouri Extension, this resource links small businesses with area services that provide business-building programs and services.
And finally, this month’s “Day in the Work Life” showcases Sally Roth, president and CEO of Regions Bank’s Greater St. Louis Market, and our monthly “Spotlight” shines a light on Tom Minogue, chairman of St. Louis-based law firm Thompson Coburn.
We hope you enjoy reading this issue of
