LEONARD MASONRY HONORED FOR GRAND BASIN DESIGN

Leonard Masonry Inc. has earned national recognition from Masonry Construction magazine for its work on the renovation of the historic Emerson Grand Basin in Forest Park. The company received a Project of the Year Award in the landscape division and was featured in the magazine’s July issue.

“It has been an exciting experience to bring the grand basin back to its former glory,” states Jeff Leonard, president of Leonard Masonry. “Seeing our stone and workmanship recognized on a national level is rewarding. Our architects and stone masons have such an appreciation for fine stone and masonry work and it’s gratifying to receive recognition for all their hard work.”

The Emerson Grand Basin was part of the 1904 World’s Fair held at Forest Park in St. Louis. Leonard Masonry transformed the historic basin’s crumbling limestone walls and stagnant water with granite imported from Brazil and more than 9,000 pieces of cast stone. The new design features pedestrian promenades, balcony overlooks, bridges, boat landings, landscaping and irrigation.

SISTERS OF MERCY HEALTH SYSTEM NAMED ONE OF NATION'S MOST WIRED HOSPITALS

The Sisters of Mercy Health System is one of the 100 most wired hospitals and health systems in the country, according to the results of the 100 Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems Survey and Benchmarking Study produced by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. The Sisters of Mercy Health System operates hospitals in five states, including St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis and St. John's Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo.

Hospitals and health systems that came out on top have invested significantly in health information technology. The survey evaluates how hospitals use information technology in five key areas: safety and quality, customer service, business processes, workforce, and public health and safety.

The 100 most wired hospitals have risk-adjusted mortality rates that are an average of 7.2 percent lower than other hospitals, according to an outcome analysis conducted for the magazine by Solucient. However, the study does not establish a cause-and-effect relationship between the use of information technology and improved mortality rates.

Hospitals & Health Networks magazine conducted the survey with IDX Systems Corp., Accenture and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.
