Henry D. Shannon has been elected to a one-year term as chairman of the board of directors for the American Association of Community Colleges, whose membership includes nearly 95 percent of all two-year accredited colleges. Shannon previously served as chairman of the Association’s committee on membership. He has been chancellor of St. Louis Community College since 2000.

Amerinet has promoted Robert P. “Bud” Bowen to CEO and has appointed him to serve as a director on the company’s board. Bowen has been with the organization since its inception in 1986 and was named president in 1998. Amerinet has also promoted Todd Ebert from executive vice president to president of operations. Industry veteran Wayne A. Thompson has been hired to fill the new officer position of president of health systems integration. He previously served as president and CEO of Joint Purchasing Corporation.

Steven W. Korn, former vice chairman and COO of CNN, has been elected to the board of directors of Brown Shoe Company. He is expected to serve a three-year term. Korn joined Turner Broadcasting System in 1983 and ultimately served as vice chairman and COO from 1996 to June 2000.
BURGGRAF NAMED GROUP EXECUTIVE FOR PEABODY’S COLORADO OPERATIONS
Peabody Energy has named Charles “Chuck” Burggraf group executive of Colorado operations. He will be responsible for mines owned by the Twentymile Coal Company and the Seneca Coal Company and will also oversee the development of additional coal reserves in Colorado. Burggraf most recently served as operations manager of the Twentymile Mine and is a registered professional engineer with 26 years of mining experience.

Peter MacKeith has been appointed associate director of the Sam Fox Arts Center at Washington University in St. Louis. MacKeith, who also serves as associate dean for the school of architecture, will be responsible for public programming, organization of collaborative teaching
and research, and organization of the Whitaker Foundation Learning Lab. He joined the school of architecture in 1999 as assistant dean.

Peter H. Raven, director of the Missouri Botanical Garden, has received the prestigious ANZAAS Medal from the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science. He is the first person from outside of Australia and New Zealand to receive the award. Raven was selected for his outstanding contributions in several areas, including promoting public awareness of the importance of science and biodiversity, promoting biological education, providing scientific leadership and research, and contributing heavily to Australasian science.
