PUTTING THE REGION'S BEST FOOT FORWARD: NATIONAL SITE SELECTION CONFERENCE MARKETS THE REGION

The 2003 Gateway Site Selection Conference, presented by the RCGA, focused on opportunities to locate and expand advanced manufacturing firms to the region. This year’s event was held September 3 to 5. In attendance were 13 national site selection consultants who are considering St. Louis for their corporate clients, as well as a number of individual and relocation prospects who are in the final stages of making decisions.

The Site Selection Conference is part of the RCGA’s and our state and local partners’ continuing national economic development marketing of the St. Louis region. The RCGA and its Greater St. Louis Economic Development Network partners assembled an impressive line-up of St. Louis area business, civic and elected leaders, a sampling of whom include: General Motors Corp. Wentzville Plant Manager Mike Camp; Bank of America-Missouri President Patricia Mercurio (both of whom are also members of the Greater St. Louis Economic Development Council; Saint Louis Zoo President Dr. Jeffrey Bonner; KMOX radio “Morning Meeting” host and KETC-TV’s “Donnybrook” regular Charles Brennan; City of St. Louis Executive Director for Development Barbara Geisman; St. Louis Cardinals Chairman Fred Hanser; and St. Louis Business Journal Publisher Ellen Sherberg, a member of the Executive Committee of the RCGA Board of Directors and a member of the Greater St. Louis Economic Development Council.

In addition to a helicopter tour of the region, the group visited Nike IHM Inc., a subsidiary of Nike with offices and a manufacturing facility at the Missouri Research Park in St. Charles County; Forest Park and the Saint Louis Zoo; the Gateway Arch; and other venues. The three-day Site Selection Conference was capped off at a Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds game in the owner’s suite hosted by Fred Hanser.
