Commerce Bank has added community relations and charitable giving
to the duties of Dee Joyner, senior vice president for organizational
development. Joyner will oversee the Commerce Bank markets of St.
Louis, eastern Missouri and Illinois.
Joyner has a long-standing history of community involvement and
served in various leadership roles in St. Louis County government
before joining Commerce Bank 12 years ago. She currently serves
as Chair of the Board of Boys and Girls Town. Joyner’s other community
activities include: Alzheimer’s Association Advisory Board; Missouri
Women’s Forum member; University of Missouri–Saint Louis Chancellor’s
Council member; and Deaconess Foundation Board of Trustees. She
also serves on the Boards of the Automobile Club of Missouri and
Delta Dental of Missouri.

been named president of Missouri Strategic National
Implementation Process (SNIP).

After
just two years with the committee, Michelle Llewellyn,
manager, payer relations, and HIPAA Coordinator of Gateway
EDI Inc., has been named President of Missouri Strategic
National Implementation Process (SNIP). The Missouri
SNIP is an organization focused on Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) implementation
within the state.
MO SNIP (www.mosnip.com) provides an opportunity among
health-care industry stakeholders i.e., providers, hospitals,
health plans, clearinghouses, professional associations
and societies, research and pharmaceutical organizations,
government agencies and vendors to assure their interpretation
of HIPAA standards is “correct” or the industry “best
fit,” and not another proprietary solution. MO SNIP
enables stakeholders to follow HIPAA implementers and
benefit from lessons learned through the leaders’ experiences.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital has added Sharon O’Keefe to its executive
management team in the role of chief operating officer. Most recently,
O’Keefe served as executive vice president and chief operating officer
of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, a teaching affiliate
of Harvard Medical School.

Ed Eslinger has been promoted to vice president and department head
of structural engineering at HBE Corporation. Eslinger joined HBE
in January 2002 as a structural engineering group leader. A registered
architect and engineer in 25 states, he has 28 years of experience
in building design and project management.

Newly elected
members of the Board of Trustees at Webster University include
Terrance C.Z. Egger, Major General Raymond Rees, Dr. Donald
Suggs and Donna Vandiver.
Egger has served as president of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch
LLC since June 2000. He joined the organization as publisher
of the newspaper and vice president of Pulitzer Inc. in 1999.
Major General Rees is vice chief, National Guard Bureau, Departments
of the Army and Air Force. He has received several awards
and decorations including the Defense Distinguished Service
Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal (with two Oak Leaf
clusters).
Dr. Suggs is president and publisher of the St. Louis American
newspaper. Previously, Dr. Suggs served as chief of oral surgery
at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. Also, he was the first
African American to serve as an associate clinical professor
at Saint Louis University Dental School.
Vandiver, president and CEO of The Vandiver Group (TVG), has
more than 25 years of experience in strategic planning, corporate
reputation management, crisis communication, public relations
and marketing. In 2002, her firm has received numerous honors
including two awards for “Best Place to Work in St. Louis.”

KLOEPPEL AMONG LEADERSHIP IN NAVAL RESERVE
COMMAND
Rear Admiral Daniel Kloeppel, a native of St. Louis, has been assigned
Commander of the Naval Air Force Reserve. He started his Navy career
as an ensign in 1970 after completing NROTC training at Northwestern
University. Two years later, Kloeppel was designated a naval aviator.
His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of
Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation
Medal, Navy and Marine Corps and Commendation Medal.
In 1977, he transitioned to the Naval Reserve. Kloeppel has been
a commercial pilot for the past 25 years, serving with Ozark, Trans
World and American Airlines. Currently, he is qualified as captain
on the MD-80 aircraft.

as a partner. Merenda has 34 years of financial and accounting business

head of Andersen’s St. Louis Tax Practice and director for Andersen’s
Central Region Tax Practice. In his new role at RBG&Co., he will
work with middle market and family-owned businesses doing tax consulting
and tax planning.

Ameristar Casinos Inc. has promoted Tom Malone to vice president/controller.
He reports to Chief Financial Officer, Thomas Steinbauer. Malone
came to Ameristar in June 2001 as director of internal audit. Prior
to joining the company, Malone was a partner with big four accounting
firm KPMG. Ameristar operates six locations in Nevada, Iowa, Missouri
and Mississippi.

Art Ackermann has been promoted to vice president of the general
business group at Paric Corporation. Ackermann has more than 28
years of experience in construction and served as the project executive
