Investing in the Region

The Regional Business Council at the RCGA, made up of executives from major large- to medium-size regional companies, is dedicated to increasing the number of businesspersons involved in and investing in regional growth.

Arthur Andersen’s Volunteerism Begins at the Top

Arthur Andersen, the global professional services firm, has made a positive impact on St. Louis for many years. The firm’s partners and employees focus primarily on assisting minorities and women, but they are also involved in a wide array of other civic activities and boards. They support organizations such as the National Conference of Community and Justice, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the St. Louis Variety Club.

The St. Louis staff also works on projects with Arthur Andersen employees across the nation. On July 14 and 15, for example, local personnel supported a Habitat for Humanity building project and were among 1,900 Arthur Andersen staff who participated in 20 U.S. cities. Nationwide, the firm contributed 15,000 work hours and more than $200,000 in donations.

Larry and Susan Katzen

Larry R. Katzen, a member of The Regional Business Council, is the managing partner of Arthur Andersen–St. Louis and the leader of the seven-state region. His leadership, however, continues out of the office as he considers civic engagement to be important for his business, community and family. He believes volunteerism is a personal and professional responsibility and has demonstrated this by holding significant committee leadership positions in a number of different organizations. He recently served as Chairman of the Executive Board of the Friends of Scouting Annual Giving Campaign through the Greater St. Louis Area Council of Boy Scouts of America. Katzen is also the Treasurer for the St. Louis RCGA Board and a member of the Executive Committee for the Board of Governors of his alma mater, Drake University, serving as the Chair of the Investment Committee. His role helped to significantly increase the endowment from $20 million to $120 million during his term with the University.

Katzen shares his support of education with his wife, Susan Katzen. She is an adult basic-education tutor helping students attain their G.E.D.s through the Parkway Area Adult Education & Literacy Program. She also volunteers weekly at The Miriam School, and she knits afghans for the use of families residing at the Ronald McDonald House at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The Katzens are the parents of quadruplets, age 26.
