
UNITED WAY NAMES LEADERS FOR 2009 FUND-RAISING CAMPAIGN
The United Way of Greater St. Louis has selected Brenda D. Newberry, chairman and founder of The Newberry Group Inc., to return as chair of the United Way Tri-County Division’s 2009 fund-raising campaign chair.
Hugh Grant, chairman, president and CEO of Monsanto Company, has been named campaign chair. Grant joined the United Way’s board of directors in 2007 and has served on its executive committee since 2008.
Douglas H. Yaeger, chairman, president and CEO of The Laclede Group Inc., has been named the 2009 chair of the board of directors.
WEBSTER UNIVERSITY NAMES NEW PRESIDENT, CHANCELLOR
Webster University’s board of trustees has chosen Elizabeth Stroble as the university’s new president and chief executive, effective July 1. Stroble is a former senior vice president, provost and chief operating officer at the University of Akron in Ohio and brings 35 years of experience as an educator and academic leader to her new position.
The board also named Interim President Neil J. George to the newly created position of chancellor. George joined the Webster University faculty in 1972 and has served in a number of leadership positions. He was named executive vice president and vice president for academic affairs in 1995.
FLEISHMAN-HILLARD PROMOTES VEIDT TO PRESIDENT
Fleishman-Hillard International Communications has promoted Susan Veidt to president of its U.S. Central region. She joined Fleishman-Hillard St. Louis in 1986 and has served as general manager for the past six years.

The United Way of Greater St. Louis has honored Bruce Holland, CEO and founder of Holland Construction Services Inc., with the Freeman-Kortkamp Award in recognition of his outstanding service and performance as a United Way board member. The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis has announced several changes in leadership in its board of directors. Steven H. Lipstein, president and CEO of BJC HealthCare in St. Louis, has been appointed chairman of the St. Louis Fed’s board of directors. Ward M. Klein, CEO of Energizer Holdings Inc., has been appointed deputy chairman. Sharon D. Fiehler, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Peabody Energy Corp., has been appointed to fill the unexpired portion of a three-year term that ends Dec. 31, 2010.
RAVEN RECEIVES LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FROM THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR SCIENCE AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Peter Raven, president of the Missouri Botanical Garden, has received the National Council for Science and the Environment’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C., during the 9th National Conference on Science, Policy and the Environment. Raven, one of the world’s leading botanists and advocates of conservation, biodiversity and a sustainable environment, has headed the Missouri Botanical Garden for three decades.
WITTKOP PICKED TO LEAD NEW DIVISION OF McCARTHY BUILDING COMPANIES
McCarthy Building Companies Inc. has named Scott Wittkop president of its new Central Division, which is headquartered in St. Louis. He joined McCarthy in 1986 as a project engineer and has spent the last 23 years moving up through the ranks.
