INVESTING IN THE REGION

KERRY CASEY

Senior Site Officer & Senior Vice President
Customer Order Management Center, Reuters America Operations

If all of the companies of the world were a forest, the Reuters tree would stand tall and proud. After all, it reigns as the world’s largest international multimedia news agency, and its “branches” extend into 91 countries.

What many may not realize, however, is that one particularly important “branch” is right here in St. Louis with nearly 1,000 employees at their Creve Coeur campus. And one of Kerry Casey’s goals, as senior vice president, Customer Order Management Center, is to seek ways for Reuters to expand its role within the local arena.

“I want to ensure that Reuters is in the community and that we give back to the community,” says Casey, who has been with the company for three years.

The news aspect actually comprises only about 10 percent of Reuters’s revenue, whereas 90 percent stems from its financial services business. Reuters delivers financial news and information to companies throughout the world. It provides real-time data on 5.5 million financial records.

In addition to being a product development site, the entire Reuters network for inbound feeds from more than 400 exchanges and 6,000 contributors are managed from St. Louis. The operation here plays a key role in supporting the North American and global operations.

Casey manages all customer orders from receipt through implementation and billing for any of the Reuters products, and works closely with Reuters sales, finance, and technical teams.

Because she helps clients make smarter decisions and, thus, manage their businesses more successfully, Casey finds her work quite rewarding.

“Our products are integral to our customers’ success, in that they allow companies to make business decisions in, literally, microseconds,” she says. “I like knowing that we are enabling companies to be more productive.”

From a business standpoint, what else does this Reuters executive like?

Being in St. Louis.

“St. Louis has a tremendously talented labor force, which stems in part from excellent local universities,” she says. “This allows for strong partnerships through leadership and student organizations that enable professionals to make a difference in St. Louis. There is also a certain sense of pride in St. Louis and a willingness to support others to grow.”

LEADERSHIP CIRCLE INSIGHTS

“What advice would you give to a 2006 college graduate?”

“In order to find solutions to today’s complex problems, we all need to work together. By doing so, we can develop better solutions and accomplish so much more. Start every project by identifying people’s common commitments. These will lay a strong foundation for getting things done.”

DAN GETMAN
Vice President,
Pfizer Global Research and Development

”Trust your judgment of what is best for you and your future. From a career decision stand point there are no wrong or right decisions. Each decision is simply an educated choice. You will need to re-evaluate those decisions periodically so you can make adjustments to give you satisfaction in where you are heading in life. The only bad decision is not to make a decision!”

John R. Kuhlmann Jr.
President & CEO,
Kuhlmann design Group Inc.

“Learning should never stop. Stay current about the issues and challenges impacting your profession and those you serve. Continue to hone your skill sets and collaborate with others to bring about productive change. Above all else, focus on the needs of others around you whether it is the needs of your client, customer, colleague, manager or company. It is only then that you can make a difference.”

Jeffrey A. Stuerman
President & CEO,
TIAA-CREF Trust Company FSB
