MAKING HEADLINES
The St. Louis region and its companies often make national news—below are a few highlights.

Leonard Masonry’s Work on Courthouse Earns “Best High-Rise” Award

Above: Leonard Masonry’s work on the Thomas F. Eagleton Courthouse and Shaw Park Plaza was recently featured in Masonry Construction magazine.

Masonry Construction magazine’s best projects of the year included an award to Leonard Masonry Inc. of St. Louis and its work on the Thomas F. Eagleton Courthouse in downtown St. Louis as “Best High-Rise.” In addition, Leonard Masonry received an Honorable Mention for Shaw Park Plaza, 14-story office building in Clayton. The award-winning projects are featured in the February 2002 issue of the publication.

Annual awards in Masonry Construction recognize quality masonry design and construction in 10 categories. Winning projects make significant use of masonry and are noted for innovation, cost-saving methods and environmental considerations. The high-rise category, which included the Thomas F. Eagleton Courthouse, encompasses hotels, apartment and office buildings over five stories tall.

Designed by St. Louis-based HOK, the 29-story Thomas F. Eagleton Courthouse features columns and domes characteristic of St. Louis architecture. The building’s exterior blends traditional and contemporary themes using precast concrete panels and glass. At more than one million square feet, it is the largest federal courthouse in the U.S. Leonard Masonry was responsible for all masonry on the building including cast stone walls and planters, granite pavers and steps, and the building’s distinctive cast stone balustrade.
