Illinois Garners Headlines in National Business Publications
The past year has given Southwestern Illinois lots of positive attention.
The area, primarily Madison and St. Clair counties, continues to
receive recognition from national publications as the “distribution
hub of the Midwest.”
Corporate Real Estate Executive magazine dedicated two full
pages in its “Regions in Review” section in an article, entitled
“Southwest Illinois: A Rising Distribution Destination.” The story
describes how the area’s location and transportation infrastructure
system has helped lure Fortune 500 companies such as Dial, Kraft,
CapriSun and Sears.
A recent article in Midwest Business and Industrial Properties
covers the area’s recent rise as a distribution hub. It also points
to Illinois’ FIRST and EDGE Business Incentive programs as a driving
force behind new development.
Plants, Sites and Parks included Southwestern Illinois in
an article entitled “Top Spots for Distribution.” The piece highlights
the area’s success in attracting major distribution and warehousing
companies. It also points to the location’s access to inland waterways,
which connect the area to 15 states, Canada and Mexico.
Other national publications such as Business Development Outlook,
Site Selection Magazine, Midwest Real Estate News and statewide
publications such as Illinois Business and Illinois Real Estate
Journal have also featured Southwestern Illinois in the past year.
“We have initiated an aggressive marketing campaign to reach key
decision makers in the commercial real estate industry,” says Jim
Pennekamp, executive director of the Leadership Council of Southwestern
Illinois. “It’s very encouraging to us that the editors of these
publications choose to feature Southwestern Illinois as a prime
location.”
St. Louis Featured in Japanese Newspaper
Nikkei Business Daily in Japan featured the St. Louis region in
a two-day series of special articles on successful U.S. high-tech
areas. The series described Missouri as transitioning from the “Corn
Belt” to the “Bio Belt.”
The focus of the articles was largely on technology in science.
The first day’s story was devoted to major developments such as
Washington University School of Medicine’s human genome project
and Orion Genomics, which is involved in genome analysis.
The second day’s article shifted the spotlight to biotechnology
and global food issues. Writer Jun Ando mentioned Monsanto’s contribution
in this area. He was particularly impressed with partnerships that
developed in this area such as the Donald Danforth Plant Science
Center and the Nidus Center for Scientific Enterprise that is linking
research results and commercial applications.
St. Louis also received kudos for having the largest Japanese garden
in the U.S. at the Missouri Botanical Garden. |
