Lawrence
Group Expands with Acquisition of Denver Firm

St. Louis-based architectural and interior design firm, The Lawrence
Group, has expanded its multi-family housing and historic renovation
practice with the acquisition of Josh Comfort Architecture in Denver.
The acquisition adds eight professionals to the 125-person firm
and increases the Denver office to 12 employees.
Since the acquisition, The Lawrence Group has been retained to design
the 387-unit, $58 million Bassett Street Residence housing development
adjacent to Coors Field in downtown Denver.
“Josh Comfort Architecture brings to our firm tremendous knowledge
and experience in condominium and rental housing development, especially
in historic urban settings,” says Steve Smith, president and CEO
of The Lawrence Group.
In St. Louis, The Lawrence Group has provided architectural and
interior design for the renovation of several historic buildings
including the Greeley Building at Laclede’s Landing, the Hamilton-Brown
Building in the Locust District and the Rudmann Building on Washington
Avenue.
St. Louis Arts Awards “Light Up The Night”
With the theme, “Light Up The Night,” the 10th Annual St. Louis
Arts Awards honored six outstanding individuals and corporate contributors
to the area arts community. Recipients honored at the event were:

S.M. Wilson & Co. Moving Headquarters to City
S.M. Wilson & Co. is consolidating its Missouri and Illinois general
construction contracting operations into a new headquarters facility
in the City of St. Louis. S.M. Wilson, with 86 employees and $175
million in annual revenues projected for 2001, purchased a 39,000-square-foot
building at 2185 Hampton Avenue last August and has completed major
renovation of the building.
Founded in Granite City, Ill., in 1921, S.M. Wilson was ranked as
the 208th largest general contractor in the U.S. by Engineering
News Record magazine and is among the 10 largest in the St. Louis
area. Among its current and recently completed projects are: Central
Institute for the Deaf, the Chesterfield Government Center, Jewish
Center for the Aged, Famous Barr at Westfield Shoppingtown and Pattonville
School District. The company also has built a number of Target and
Home Depot stores in the St. Louis area.
Former Mayor Harmon Recognizes Rodgers Townsend for Community

Former St. Louis
Mayor Clarence Harmon presented the “Spirit of St. Louis” Award
to local advertising agency Rodgers Townsend in February. At the
awards ceremony, he said, “I am here today to talk about the under-appreciated
side of business. Since its inception in 1996, Rodgers Townsend
has championed its commitment to improving the quality of life in
our community by donating more than $1 million in pro bono advertising
and marketing services.”
The firm’s pro bono clients include: American Lung Association of
Eastern Missouri, Forest Park Forever, Foster Care Coalition of
St. Louis, Hothouse Theatre Company, Humane Society of Missouri,
Make-A-Wish Foundation of St. Louis, Missouri Humanities Council,
Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Efforts for AIDS, St.
Louis Black History Wax Museum, St. Louis International Film Festival,
and United Way of Greater St. Louis.
Gundaker Declares Independence
After 22 years as a franchisee of the Better Homes & Gardens real
estate network (BH&G), Gundaker Realtors of St. Louis will operate
as an independent residential real estate brokerage. BH&G is now
part of GMAC Real Estate. Gundaker elected not to make the transition
to a new franchise. Gordon Gundaker maintains his ownership interests
in two GMAC franchises: Gundaker-Wardley/GMAC in Las Vegas and Frontier/GMAC
in Denver.
Gundaker Realtors continues as a member of the Realty Alliance,
and recently announced their affiliation with the RELO relocation
services network. The local Gundaker company operates 30 offices
in east central Missouri with more than 2,000 sales associates.
Sonacom Expands to New Headquarters
Sonacom IT Partners, number six among St. Louis’ Fast 50 Technology
Companies, and its sister companies, Sonacom Internet Solutions
(IS) and Sonacom AV Interactive (SAVI), moved to larger headquarters
facilities at 500 S. Ewing in St. Louis Business Park.
In addition to being 50 percent larger, Sonacom’s new offices feature
a “smart” conference center allowing staff to demonstrate the technology
advancements that the company can offer including voice and data
integration, voice over technologies, wireless networking, and enhanced
audio/visual capabilities.
Color Associates Acquires Color Systems Inc.
Color Associates Inc. has acquired Color Systems Inc., a St. Louis-based
provider of digital pre-press services for the catalog, corporate
direct and advertising industries. Color Systems’ work will be merged
into Color Associates’ Catalog 8 Corporate Direct pre-press operations.
Among Color Associates’ other services are packaging, catalog, tradeshow,
event, web, publishing and digital asset management solutions through
its Digital, Pre-Press, Creative Imaging, and New Media groups.
The company, with more than 320 employees, has production facilities
at its St. Louis headquarters and retains sales representatives
nationwide. |
