The
Partners for Livable Communities presented Bridge Builders Awards
to individuals associated with six projects that have crossed
boundaries of race, economics and geography in their communities.
Richard C.D. Fleming, president and CEO of the RCGA was
the keynote speaker and Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. hosted
the event.
The
civic leaders who were honored for their success in bridging the
racial and economic divides in their communities are U.S. Congressman
John Lewis and U.S. Congressman Amo Houghton of New York for inspiring
better working relationships on race issues among democrats and
republicans in Congress; William Jones, Sol Price and Christine
Kehoe for improving the lives of a disadvantaged San Diego neighborhood;
Kathy Morgan and Ann Rubenstein Tisch for working with at-risk
youth in New York City in preparation for college; Erwin Mitchell
and Maria Olivia Villarreal-Solano for reaching out to a major
influx of Hispanic workers and their families; Reverend Calvin
O. Butts III and Jim Donald for establishing community partnerships
in Harlem, New York; and the efforts of George Washington University,
D.C.'s business and philanthropic communities and the government
of the District of Columbia for their creation of the Center for
Excellence in Municipal Management in Washington, D.C.
SSM
Health Care CEO Named to MHA Board of Trustees
Ron
Levy, president and CEO of SSM Health CareSt. Louis
and regional president/system vice president of SSM Health Care,
has been named to the board of trustees of the Missouri Hospital
Association (MHA) for a one-year term. Levy represents MHA's fourth
district, which encompasses St. Louis and the surrounding area.
As
a member of the board of trustees, Levy oversees the administration
of MHA and
developing association policies. The board also oversees the financial
matters of MHA and helps to consult with hospitals on legislative
matters.
MHA
is a not-for-profit membership association in Jefferson City that
represents more than 150 Missouri hospitals and offers continuing
education programs to the public and legislative representatives
on current health-care topics.
Schnuck,
Homan Elected to United Way Leadership
Two
prominent St. Louis business leaders were elected to hold major
leadership positions with the United Way of Greater St. Louis,
which provides a vital network of health and human service efforts
in the bi-state region.
Craig
D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer of Schnuck
Markets, Inc. has been named chair of the United Way of Greater
St. Louis board of directors for a two-year term. Schnuck, who
served as chair of the 1999 fundraising campaign, succeeds Richard
A. Liddy, chairman, president and chief executive officer of GenAmerica.
Prior
to his new role, Schnuck served as marketing and communications
chair for the United Way between 1989 and 1997 and as campaign
executive vice chair in 1998. He is the third member of the Schnuck
family to lead a United Way fundraising campaign, following his
father, Donald O. Schnuck, and his uncle, Edward J. Schnuck.
C.R.
(Ray) Holman, chairman and CEO for Mallinckrodt Inc., has
been named chair of the United Way 2000 fundraising campaign,
succeeding Schnuck. Holman, a longtime United Way volunteer, served
as executive vice chair for the 1999 fundraising campaign. Holman
joined Mallinckrodt in 1976 as assistant controller and held various
positions in the firm until being elected president and CEO of
Mallinckrodt Group in 1992. He was elected chairman of the board
in October 1994.
Both
Schnuck and Holman are members of Civic Progress and serve on
the board of several major corporations, educational institutions,
nonprofit groups and national organizations.
Krueger
Named Partner of Rataj Architects
Kurtis
R. Krueger has been named partner of St. Louis-based Rataj
Architects, Inc., resulting in the change of the firm's name to
Rataj-Krueger Architects, Inc.
Krueger
began his career with Rataj Architects in 1996, bringing experience
not only in the architectural field, but also in design/build.
During his time with Rataj, Kurtis has specialized in professional
office buildings as well as large-scale theater/auditorium construction.
His new position as partner and project administrator of commercial
projects will expand the firm's services.
Krueger
is a 1987 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Architecture,
where he earned a bachelor's degree in architecture.
The
firm specializes in light commercial buildings, tenant finish
with an emphasis on medical, retail design and entertainment projects,
including the recently completed Wehrenberg Theatres Mid Rivers
Mall 14 Cine and several new office buildings in South St. Louis
and Jefferson counties.

Named Principal of RBG Financial Institutions Services Group
Robert
H. Woll, CPA, has been named principal-in-charge of the Financial
Institutions Services Group at Rubin, Brown, Gornstein & Co.
LLP (RBG&Co.), the largest locally owned accounting and consulting
firm in St. Louis.
Woll's
experience includes 15 years with a global accounting and consulting
firm, where he specialized in depository institutions, mortgage
banking, asset-based lending, consumer finance and leasing. He
has assisted clients with initial public offerings, acquisitions,
asset-backed securitization transactions and accounting for derivative
financial instruments.
The
Financial Institutions Services Group provides a wide range of
planning, assurance, and consulting services for banks, savings
and loans, and credit unions. It also publishes an annual Statistical

Venhaus
As
the new chief financial officer of Welsch, Flatness & Lutz,
Denise Venhaus directs the accounting, human resources,
management information systems and financial activities of the
St. Louis-based firm. She also prepares annual budgets and monthly
analysis, forecasting and cash flow projections to meet the long-range
strategic planning objectives of the insurance, financial and
risk-management services firm.
Prior
to her new position, Venhaus was a controller of large construction
companies for seven years and worked another seven years in public
accounting. She has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Eastern
Illinois University.

has been named an active member of Civic Progress, an organization

co-founder of Charter, Kent has led the company to become the
fourth largest cable operator in the United States with nearly
six million subscribers. Prior to Charter, Kent was an executive
officer, executive vice president and chief financial officer
at Cencom Cable Associates, Inc. Kent also serves on the board
of directors of Cable Television Laboratories, Inc., the cable
industry's research and development arm for leading technology.

Chairman Elected to National Kidney Foundation Board
Fred L. Brown
Fred
L. Brown, chairman of the American Hospital Association (AHA)
and vice chairman of BJC Health System, was elected to the National
Kidney Foundation (NKF) board of directors. The NKF is the nation's
largest voluntary health agency dedicated to the prevention and
treatment of kidney and urologic disease.
Brown
serves on other boards as well, including: America's Doctor.com,
Commerce Bancshares, Inc., Citation Computers, Inc., Dynamics
Healthcare Advisors and the Healthcare Research and Development

Teasdale Elects Accomplished New Partners
Due
to their outstanding accomplishments in their respective areas
of practice, Jennifer L. Arendes, Patrick J. Kenny,
Gerald A. King and Daniel C. Nelson were elected

Arendes
received her undergraduate degree from Tulane University (summa

has litigation experience in a wide range of employment cases,

Kenny

MissouriColumbia Law School in 1990, where he was elected

Leader Heads Zoo-Museum District Board
Kay
Marshall, who has a long history of service to the community,
was elected chair of the board of directors of the Metropolitan
Zoological Park and Museum District.
The
Zoo-Museum District motivates the community to support the cultural
institutions that are beneficiaries of the district, including
the St. Louis Zoological Park, Saint Louis Art Museum, St. Louis
Science Center, Missouri Botanical Garden and the History Museum.
Marshall
has served in various leadership capacities with the City's Planned
Industrial Expansion, the Saint Louis Zoo Friends, Forest Park
Forever, the Clifton Heights Neighborhood Association, St. Louis

Convergys
President/CEO Adds Chairman to Title
James
F. Orr, president and CEO of Convergys, has been elected as its
new chairman to replace Charles S. Mechem, Jr. who retired in
April.
Orr
has helped build Convergys into a $1.8 billion company and the
global leader in providing outsourced, integrated, customer care
and billing services. Convergys software produces more than one
million bills each day.
Orr
was previously the chief operating officer, director, and president
of Cincinnati Bell Inc. (CBI) and MATRIXX Marketing, the businesses
that currently make up of Convergys. After significant growth
as part of CBI, Convergys was spun off as an independent, public
company in 1998.
Prior
to joining CBI, Orr had more than 20 years of domestic and international
experience in sales and marketing with Procter & Gamble.

Organization Appoints Director To Generate Community Partnerships
Laura Neuman
Laura
Neuman has been named director of Choose Environmental Excellence-Gateway
Region, a new organization emerging in the St. Louis metropoli
tan
area that promotes positive environmental actions. Neuman is responsible
for generating commitment to environmental excellence through
a working partnership with businesses, organizations, individuals
and government. The organization's initial emphasis is on the
promotion of simple waste reduction and recycling practices at
home, work and school. The organization also encourages people
to take simple steps to improve air quality, energy efficiency
and water conservation.
As
co-director for the Missouri Environmental Fund, Neuman, has been
involved with the development and coordination of several programs,
including Alliance for a Livable World--St. Louis Earth Day Community
Festival and EarthWays, an environmental education center. Neuman
currently serves as secretary for the Coalition of Environmental
Federations, a nationwide network of state and regional federations
that represents 900 environmental organizations.
With
a journalism degree from the University of MissouriColumbia,
Neuman also completed CORO's Women in Leadership training.
