The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International has named Arnold W. Donald as president and CEO. Donald joined the organization after serving as chairman and CEO at Chicago-based Merisant Company, which he founded in 2000. Before starting Merisant, Donald served as a senior executive at Monsanto Company.

The Rev. Lawrence Biondi, S.J., president of Saint Louis University, has been named
St. Louis Citizen of the Year for 2005. Sponsored by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the award is given to a community leader who demonstrates concern for St. Louis’ growth and vitality. Biondi was chosen for the award by a committee of past recipients.
His work with the University over the past
19 years, includes some half billion dollars in physical improvements and expansions. And campus development has helped revitalize the surrounding area, including Grand Center.
In addition, the University has more than doubled its number of freshman applicants since 1987. The average ACT score of incoming freshmen has risen by 16.3 percent. Total enrollment has increased by more than 1,000.
Likewise, the endowment has grown by 455 percent. University aid for student scholarships has grown sevenfold to $71 million from less than $10 million. The number of endowed faculty chairs has more than tripled, from 10 to 35.

Tim Kusky and Eleonore Stump, both professors at Saint Louis University, are two of the 10 Great Minds of St. Louis, according to St. Louis Magazine. The magazine dubbed Kusky the “Rock Jock” and highlighted his work in 2001 that changed the geological timeline. Stump was profiled for her accomplishments as the recipient of the Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching and a slated lecturer for the prestigious Wilde Lectures at Oxford University. The magazine profiled both professors in its December 2005 issue.
