GRAY PROMOTED TO VP AT DOE RUN

The Doe Run Company has appointed Clifton “Clif” Gray to vice president of primary smelting/general manager. Gray has been the general manager of Doe Run’s Herculaneum, Mo., smelter since September 2001. In his new role, Gray will continue to be responsible for Doe Run’s Herculaneum primary lead smelter and will also oversee Doe Run’s Historic Site Remediation efforts. He will report directly to Jerry Pyatt, vice president of domestic operations and chief operating officer.

Gray has more than 35 years of experience in the smelting industry. Previously he was the general manager of Doe Run’s Glover, Mo., smelter. Prior to that, he worked as facility manager at Doe Run’s Buick Resource Recycling Division in Boss, Mo. In 1994, he initiated work for the company’s Historic Site Remediation in the Park Hills area. He spent 23 years with AMAX Homestake until it merged with St. Joseph Lead Company to form Doe Run in 1986.

BAX-KURTZ PROMOTED TO PRINCIPAL AT MPP&W

Jeanette L. Bax-Kurtz has been promoted to principal for St. Louis-based CPA firm MPP&W. As the Director of MPP&W’s Regulatory and Not-for-Profit Team, Bax-Kurtz leads the firm’s efforts in assisting these special organizations in meeting their compliance requirements as well as providing guidance in improving operating effectiveness and efficiency. She also leads MPP&W in audit reporting standards and peer review reporting.

FISCHER JOINS DOMINION HOSPITALITY AS VP OF HOTEL OPERATIONS

Dominion Hospitality Group, a St. Louis franchisee of Marriott International Inc., has hired Jerry Fischer for the new position of vice president of hotel operations. He will have executive oversight of the firm’s eight hotel properties in Missouri and Indiana. Fischer has more than 10 years of hospitality industry experience, mostly with Marriott-owned or operated hotels in the U.S.

EVANS APPOINTED HOK SENIOR VP AND OFFICE PRINCIPAL

HOK (Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum) Inc. has appointed Stephen Evans, AIA, senior vice president and office principal for client service and project management for the firm’s North Central Region. In this position, Evans joins in overall leadership responsibility for HOK’s St. Louis and Chicago offices.

Evans joined the Kansas City office of HOK Sport in l988 and served as project manager for several of the group’s most recognized projects, including the Camden Yards Project in Baltimore, Jacobs Field in Cleveland and Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. For three years prior to joining the North Central Region, Evans was the Corporate Legal Director of Risk Management in St. Louis. In 2001, he was named Group Vice President and Architecture Staff Director of HOK’s North Central Region.

Alberici Group has named Steven Olson, P.E., senior vice president of business acquisition and estimating. In this position, Olson becomes a member of the construction firm’s executive committee.

Olson brings more than 20 years experience in engineering and construction to his new role. Prior to joining Alberici, he served as vice president and general manager of NorthStar Communications Group (a BE&K company) in Birmingham, Ala.

HOWES JOINS ASTARIS AS CEO

Astaris LLC, the St. Louis-based producer of phosphorus chemicals, has named Paul Howes to join the company as president and chief executive officer. Howes succeeds Jerry Sibley, who led the formation of Astaris from the competing business units of FMC Corp. and Solutia Inc. The two companies now jointly own Astaris.

For the past four years, Howes has been vice president and general manager of the packaging division of Flint Ink. Before joining Flint he spent eight years with BFGoodrich Specialty Chemicals.

Astaris’ phosphorus-based products are used as food ingredients, as well as for industrial and institutional applications worldwide.
