ADAM'S MARK ST. LOUIS WINS 2002 PLANNER'S CHOICE AWARD

For the second consecutive year, The Adam’s Mark St. Louis hotel has earned a Planner’s Choice Award. In conjunction with the award, the hotel was featured in the Dec. 9, 2002 issue of Meeting News magazine.

Meeting News presents the annual award on votes from professional meeting planners. It recognizes top hotels, resorts, and convention centers for their meeting facilities, guest accommodations, food and beverage, guest service and overall ambiance.

“We’re very proud to receive this honor, which reflects our continuing commitment to provide the highest quality accommodations and service to our guests,” says Jeffrey Jacobs, general manager.

Other awards to The Adam’s Mark St. Louis last year included the Pinnacle Award from Successful Meetings magazine, for the 13th consecutive year, and the Award of Excellence from Corporate and Incentive Travel magazine.

NATIONAL PUBLICATION RECOGNIZES TECHNICAL TRADE TRAINING AT VATTEROTT COLLEGE


A cover story in a recent edition of Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration News featured St. Louis-based Vatterott College. The story in the weekly publication focuses on Vatterott’s continued dedication to technical trade education and the recent enrollment trends of more than 40 percent.

According to the article, changes in the nation’s economy and job markets over the past year may be prompting many students to consider careers in technical trade fields. Vatterott revealed that as many as 80 to 90 percent of students enrolled in the college’s technical trade classes are “non-traditional” or over age 24, indicating a career change.

In the St. Louis area, Vatterott’s St. Ann and Sunset Hills campuses offer diploma and associate’s degree programs in HVAC and electrical technology.

ABC NEWS MEDICAL UNIT INCLUDES ST. LOUIS PHYSICIAN

For more than five years Jay Pepose, M.D., Ph.D., has served as an ABC Medical consultant and contributor to the ABC 20/20 Medical Website. The ABC News Medical Unit is expanding Dr. Pepose’s role by inviting him to join 108 medical specialists who will provide perspective in health discussions. The medical commentators represent more than 120 specialty areas. Dr. Pepose, who is medical director of Pepose Vision Institute and professor of clinical ophthalmology at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, is one of only two ophthalmologists on the panel.

INC 500 INCLUDES ACCESS US AND MAVERICK TECHNOLOGIES


Two area firms have been listed in the 2002 edition of Inc 500, the magazine’s annual listing of the fastest growing private companies. For 20 years, the Inc 500 has ranked the nation’s leading entrepreneurial firms according to sales growth over the previous five years.

Access US of St. Louis, ranked at 274, provides Internet connection, hosting and development services. At 352 on the Inc 500, Maverick Tech-nologies of Fairview Heights, Ill., offers industrial-automation and information technology consulting.

The companies that ranked among the 2002 Inc 500 increased their average five-year growth rate by 1,521 percent with an average sales volume of $24.7 million in 2001. Almost three-quarters (73 percent) of the companies on the list are profitable. Though technology has taken a beating in the recent economy, “computer software and services” remains the leading industry category, representing 40 percent of the firms listed.

ENR LISTS 25 AREA FIRMS AMONG TOP SPECIALTY CONTRACTORS

Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) list of the nation’s leading specialty contractors includes 25 companies in the St. Louis area. Firms included on the 2002 list are ranked according to construction revenue. Specialty contractors include 15 service areas such as concrete, demolition, electrical, excavation mechanical, masonry, painting and roofing.
