Father Biondi
Receives St. Louis Award

Saint Louis University President Lawrence Biondi, S.J., received
the 2001 St. Louis Award.
The St. Louis Award Committee named Lawrence Biondi, S.J.,
president of Saint Louis University, as the recipient of the 2001
award. Biondi was selected “for his outstanding leadership of academic
excellence at Saint Louis University and regional revitalization
in midtown St. Louis.”
Biondi is the 74th person to receive the award since its establishment
in 1931 by philanthropist David Wohl. He joins a notable list of
St. Louisans who have earned the award, including Sen. John Danforth,
Richard Baron, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Mark McGwire and Lou Brock.
Since Biondi took the helm at SLU in 1987, the campus has grown
from 66 buildings on 216 acres to 140 building on 284 acres. In
addition, he has led the way for investments in updating the campus,
which now total more than $282 million. Beyond expenditures on facilities,
Biondi has committed University resources to academics, technology,
faculty recruitment and research, student scholarships and financial
aid. For several years SLU has been recognized as a U.S. News
& World Report “national best buy,” as a Templeton “character
building” university and as a Carnegie research extensive university.
Working with the Saint Louis University board of trustees, Biondi
has expanded his work beyond the borders of the campus. The focus
is development and revitalization in the St. Louis midtown community
surrounding the university. One initiative includes a revolving
loan fund of $10 million earmarked for real estate development projects
in the area
Mark Joins Ameren as VP of Customer Service

Richard Mark, vice president of customer service, Ameren Corp.
Ameren Corporation has hired Richard Mark as vice president,
customer service. Mark comes to Ameren from Ancilla Systems Inc.,
where he spent 11 years in senior management St. Mary’s Hospital
of East St. Louis. He leaves Ancilla with a track record for improving
profit margin and service.
In his new role, Mark is responsible for Ameren’s customer care
services, which include customer contact centers in Missouri and
Illinois, customer accounts and customer credit assistance.
Tenet Promotes Haynes to CEO at Saint Louis University Hospital

Tenet Saint Louis has appointed Crystal Haynes as the chief
executive officer for Saint Louis University Hospital. For the past
year, Haynes has served as chief operating officer for the 356-bed
hospital, which employs 1,800 people. She will continue to report
to Phillip Schaengold, J.D., who oversees Tenet’s five-hospital
system in St. Louis.
Haynes has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare. Before
joining Saint Louis University Hospital in December 2000, she served
as chief operating officer at The George Washington University Hospital
in Washington, D.C.
Metcalfe and Mueller Re-Appointed to St. Louis Federal Reserve
Board
The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System has re-appointed
Charles Mueller as chairman and Walter Metcalfe, Jr.,
as deputy chair to the board of directors for the Federal Reserve
Bank of St. Louis with terms ending December 31, 2002. Mueller also
was re-appointed as a director on the St. Louis Fed’s board for
a term ending December 31, 2004.
Mueller is chairman and CEO of Ameren Corp. in St. Louis, as well
as current president of Civic Progress Inc. Metcalfe is chairman
of the St. Louis-based law firm of Bryan Cave LLP.
Seiple Joins Aurora Foods as Senior VP
Aurora Foods Inc. has appointed James E. Seiple, Jr. as senior
vice president productivity and efficiency. He will report to Tom
Ellinwood, executive vice president of Aurora Brands.
Prior to joining Aurora Foods, Seiple spent 16 years with ConAgra
Foods. He held key positions in product development and marketing
for the frozen foods division of the company.
Headquartered in St. Louis, Aurora Foods produces and markets well-known
branded food products including Duncan Hines® baking mixes; Log
Cabin® and Mrs. Butterworth’s® syrups; Lender’s® bagels; Van de
Kamp’s® and Mrs. Paul’s® frozen seafood; Aunt Jemima® frozen breakfast
products; Celeste® frozen pizza and Chef’s Choice® skillet meals.
HOK’s Davis Receives Distinguished Alumni Award

Clark Davis, FAIA, vice chairman of HOK Group, was awarded the
Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Kansas School
of Architecture and Urban Design.
Clark Davis, FAIA, vice chairman of HOK Group Inc. and chief
administrative officer of HOK’s St. Louis and Chicago offices, received
the 2001 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Kansas
School of Architecture and Urban Design. Davis has been on the management
committee for the St. Louis office since 1993 and joined HOK’s board
of directors in 1999. Two years ago, he was named to the HOK corporate
executive committee, which oversees the firm’s 25 offices worldwide.
HOK’s presence in St. Louis is recognized in more than 135 building
designs including the Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse, the Missouri
History Museum renovation and expansion, Lambert Airport East Terminal,
St. Louis County Justice Center, Donald Danforth Plant Science Center,
Metropolitan Square and the Saint Louis Galleria.
