Raven Receives
National Medal of Science
Distinguished
botanist, Dr. Peter Raven, received
the National Medal of Science from President
Clinton in December of last year.

Botanist Peter H. Raven, Ph.D., director of the Missouri
Botanical Garden, received the National Medal of Science, the nation’s
highest scientific honor. He was selected for being a leader in
international efforts to preserve biodiversity and a sustainable
planet.
Called a “Hero for the Planet” by Time magazine in 1999, Raven also
serves as Englemann Professor of Botany at Washington University
in St. Louis. He is recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities
on plant systematics and as an originator of the concept of coevolution.
Raven joined 11 other distinguished scientists named by President
Clinton last year in receiving their awards during a dinner presentation
on December 1, 2000, in Washington, DC. The National Science Foundation
administers the National Medals of Science for the White House.
Bradford & Galt Appoints Peterson as VP of Technology
Bradford & Galt Inc., a Creve Coeur-based information technology
consulting and staffing firm, has appointed Ron Peterson
as vice president of technology. In his new role, Peterson will
enlarge and develop Bradford & Galt’s staff of IT consulting project
managers. In addition, he will assist clients with strategic technology
planning.
Peterson has more than 25 years of information technology management
experience. He operated his own IT consulting firm in St. Louis
and Atlanta and has been a Bradford & Galt consultant. Previously,
Peterson was vice president of systems engineering at NDCeCommerce
of Atlanta and spent 17 years at MasterCard International’s St.
Louis office, where he was vice president of business architecture.
The Westin St. Louis Names General Manager

Michael C. Jorgensen has been appointed general manager of
The Westin St. Louis located at historic Cupples Station. An industry
veteran with more than 20 years of experience, Jorgensen joins the
Westin after serving most recently as vice president and general
manager of the Drake Hotel in Oak Brook, Ill.
Prior to serving at the Drake, Jorgensen held executive management
positions with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts throughout the U.S.
and Canada.
The Westin St. Louis is the first phase of the $350 million mixed-use
redevelopment of Cupples Station. The hotel will occupy four turn-of-the-century
warehouses, offering 257 guestrooms. In addition to The Westin,
Cupples Station will include more than 400,000 square feet for office
space, restaurants, and retail space. The project developer, McCormack
Baron is experienced in adaptive reuse and rehabilitation of historic
structures.
Koplar Communications Names Josephson VP and General Counsel
Stephanie Josephson has joined Koplar Communications International
(KCI) as vice president and general counsel. She will also serve
the company’s affiliates.
KCI, a Missouri-based, privately held company, specializes in television
content, interactive media and entertainment. The company’s affiliates
include VEIL ™ Interactive Technologies, World Events Productions,
Calico World Entertainment, Koplar Entertainment, and Koplar Properties.
Previously, Josephson was with Thermadyne Holdings Corporation.
Her expertise encompasses intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions,
banking, securities, environmental matters and litigation.
Grana Joins Geotechnology
Geotechnology Inc., a St. Louis environmental/geotechnical consulting
engineering firm, appointed Dominic J. Grana, P.E., to the
newly created position of vice president—operations. Grana is responsible
for a staff of more than 35 technical professionals, as well as
managing the administrative operations for Geotechnology.
Grana has more than 25 years experience in engineering, including
10 years managing the engineering and administrative operations
of branch offices for major engineering firms. Most recently he
was managing principal of engineering operations for Dames & Moore
Inc. offices in St. Louis and Tulsa.
He is a licensed Professional Engineer in eight states.
Historical Society Announces New Board Chair

The Missouri Historical Society has elected Richard A. Liddy
as chairman of its Board of Trustees. Liddy, who replaces Franklin
A. Jacobs as chairman, has been associated with the MHS Board since
1994.
Currently, Liddy is chairman of the GenAmerica Financial Corporation
in St. Louis. Previously, he served GenAmerica as president, chief
executive officer and chief operating officer.
Liddy is active on numerous boards of directors in the St. Louis
area including Civic Progress, United Way of Greater St. Louis,
Webster University, Saint Louis Art Museum, Energizer, Brown Group
Inc., Ralston Purina, Ameren Corporation, Life Insurance Management
& Research Association, the American Council of Life Insurance and
The International Board of Standards and Practices for CFP.
Forum Studio Announces Cedergreen as President

Forum Studio has named Christopher J. Cedergreen, AIA, as
president and managing principal. A full-service architecture and
engineering collaborative firm, Forum Studio was formed in 1999
to serve clients of Clayco Construction Company. Today, Forum Studio
has 35 architects, mechanical, electrical and structural engineers,
as well as graphic and interior designers in its offices delivering
turnkey solutions for Clayco and outside developers.
Cedergreen served 10 years at HOK as senior vice president and director
of commercial projects, design and management. Also, as an associate
partner and studio head in Chicago for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill,
he directed the design of high-rise office buildings and stadiums.
Cedergreen worked on several high-profile projects in Chicago including
One Magnificent Mile, Madison Plaza and Three First National Plaza.
Jost Named President of Sonacom IS
Sonacom Internet Solutions (IS), a new division of Sonacom IT Partners,
has named Eric Jost as president and managing partner. Sonacom
IS is a provider of web development services and filtered bandwidth
to small and mid-sized companies.
Jost comes to Sonacom from Boeing Corp., where he assisted in the
design and manufacturing planning of the Apache Longbrow helicopter,
Space Shuttle APS, and International Space Station fuel tanks.
In addition to developing web sites, one of Sonacom IS’ services
is the filtering tool, Screendoor.net., which provides control of
information flow from the Internet to a user’s computer. Jost and
Mike McNeil, vice president of Sonacom IT, started Screendoor.net
in 1999 for business owners as parents looking for a worry-free
Internet access solution.

SalesOrbit Names Two Senior VPs
SalesOrbit Corp. has named John Dunn as senior vice president
of global marketing and sales and Tony Louvier as senior vice president
of product development. A new St. Louis-based enterprise, SalesOrbit
facilitates orders for the purchase of store credits for goods or
services in other countries using local merchants and the Internet.
Dunn brings more than 15 years marketing and sales experience to
SalesOrbit. He began his career with Bristol-Myers, progressing
to positions with Colgate-Palmolive, 7UP and Ralston Purina. In
the international division of Ralston, Dunn served as director of
marketing and sales and later as vice president of international
marketing and sales for a Ralston subsidiary unit. Prior to joining
SalesOrbit, Dunn was general manager of new business development
at Clark USA.
Formerly with Mercantile Bank (now Firstar), Louvier has more than
21 years of banking experience. He held a number of senior positions
at Mercantile including vice president and group manager of international
banking. Louvier also has experience in business development, country
risk and credit analysis for Latin America, Asia, Europe, Africa
and the Middle East. |
