This edition of St. Louis Commerce Magazine takes a special look at all things St. Louis, starting with Commerce’s rendition of the 101 things everyone should know about St. Louis. Paralleling this is a look at St. Louis’ finest cultural institutions and a walk down the St. Louis Walk of Fame with entrepreneur extraordinaire Joe Edwards.

This month’s Commerce also profiles some of our region’s executives who take exercising to the extreme, in the form of marathons, triathlons and ironman races. The executives who discuss their training include, Charlie Boyce, president of Innsbrook Corp.; Patricia Nooney, managing director at CB Richard Ellis; Tom Irwin, executive director of Civic Progress, and Greg Smith, partner at Husch & Eppenberger.

Among other things, St. Louis is a national leader in philanthropy and charitable giving, and this issue of Commerce includes a closer look at a wonderful charity called Wings of Hope, which has a worldwide impact. Through its volunteer efforts, Wings of Hope flew 592 people last year to medical centers to receive needed treatment.

One of the architectural wonders of St. Louis, the Chase Park Plaza in the Central West End, is in the process of a $160 million dollar face-lift, turning 18 floors of the historic hotel’s 34 floors into The Private Residences at the Chase Park Plaza. The redevelopment, scheduled to finish in 2009, also includes 90 new hotel rooms.

In keeping with St. Louis’ fantastic array of neighborhoods, this month’s Taste of the Region samples one of our region’s unique brewing companies. The Alandale Brewing Co. in Kirkwood opened last year in a former furniture warehouse.

And this month’s issue wraps up with our monthly Spotlight focusing on one of the region’s top CEOs, who’s claim to fame is one of the greatest marketing success stories in advertising history; namely, Ward Klein, CEO of Energizer Holding Inc. One of Klein’s early contributions included launching the now famous Energizer Bunny.

We hope you enjoy reading this issue of St. Louis Commerce Magazine. As always, please send your comments and suggestions to us at dfleming@stlrcga.org.
