The May issue of Inc. Magazine features the national publication’s “Best Places For Doing Business in America 2005.” The St. Louis region ranks #44, leapfrogging 52 places from its #96 position in last year’s ranking.

The piece was penned by Joel Kotkin, Inc. senior editor; Kotkin is also an Irvine Senior Fellow with the New America Foundation, and the author of the new book “The City: A Global History.” In the Inc. article, Kotkin interviews Day Veerlapati, president and CEO of St. Louis-based S2Tech, a 75-employee systems development company. Veerlapati notes that lower costs, particularly lower housing costs in St. Louis, have helped him recruit software writers from throughout the nation.

The magazine measured current-year employment growth in 274 metropolitan statistical areas (MSA), as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), looking for job creation and other signs that businesses are thriving.
