SLU STUDENT CENTER WINS BUILDINGS MAGAZINE AWARD

The Busch Student Center at Saint Louis University, designed by architectural firm Mackey Mitchell Associates, has won an interior design award from Buildings magazine. The student center won in the educational interiors category.

CONFLUENCE TRAIL RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Illinois State Sen. Bill Haine, D-Alton, his wife Anna, and their two sons Thomas and Joseph enjoy a ride on the Confluence Trail.

The Madison County, Ill. Confluence Trail has been spotlighted in the Spring 2004 Rails to Trails magazine. The article highlights the 16-mile trail’s close proximity to the first winter camp of the Lewis and Clark expedition, and points to the views along the Mississippi River, saying they are equally as spectacular as those seen by the original explorers in 1803-1804. The asphalt and chip trail, operated by Madison County Transit, begins in Alton, Ill., and extends to Granite City, Ill.

WATER SHAPES MAGAZINE FEATURES HYDRO DRAMATICS’ FOUNTAINS

Hydro Dramatics, a St. Louis-based fountain division of Missouri Machinery and Engineering Co., is featured in the May 2004 issue of Water Shapes, a monthly magazine for the landscaping and water features industry. In an article titled “Back to the Fair,” writers Kerry Friedman and Mike Perkowski profile fountains that Hydro Dramatics created at the Grand Basin and the Jewel Box in Forest Park. The fountains are part of the park’s renovation for the centennial celebration of the 1904 World’s Fair. The Grand Basin features eight fountains that are modeled after those depicted in archival photographs from the Fair.

The Pin-Up Bowl, 6191 Delmar in The Loop

Joe Edwards’ Pin-Up Bowl, located in the University City and St. Louis Loop, has been named to the inaugural Conde Nast Traveler 2004 “Hot Nights List.” The Pin-Up joins an elite group of 30 exciting new night-spots worldwide that have a “unique confluence of drinks, décor, entertainment, and crowd.” “If a bowling alley and a martini bar collided, the Pin-Up Bowl would be the result,” the magazine writes. “The décor is decidedly retro, with velvet banquettes and vintage girlie posters, but the eight high-tech lanes and four flat-screen TVs above them remind you that this is not your grandfather’s league night.” The Hot Nights list, described as the definitive guide to the hottest and hippest bars, clubs and lounges around the globe, reaches over 3 million affluent and well-traveled readers.
