LORETTO-HILTON CENTER EARNS BUILDING INTERIOR DESIGN HONOR Performers at the Center can now rehearse in a studio proportional to their performance stage. Recognizing that there’s more to a stage show than what the audience sees, Loretto-Hilton Center’s addition at Webster University boasts spacious facilities for the production “Behind the Scenes.” This also is the title for the Buildings magazine article on the award-winning facility’s interior design. The magazine recognized the Loretto-Hilton as one of its 2003 Interior Design Awards winners. Mackey Mitchell Associates of St. Louis is responsible for the re-design of the backstage areas. Completed just over a year ago, the Loretto-Hilton Center has about 36,000 square feet of new space for backstage needs such as set and costume design, as well as two dance studios, changing rooms, a lounge and faculty offices. Previously, the backstage areas were not only cramped but also scattered throughout the building. Now each department is located in the facility according to how they interrelate. The Loretto-Hilton is known as one of the busiest performing arts centers in the Midwest. Both the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and the Repertory Theater of St. Louis call the facility home. In addition numerous other events and performances for Webster University and the community use the building.
