Polk Assumes
New Role at United Way

Cheryl Polk has assumed new responsibilities as executive vice
president and chief operations officer for the United Way of Greater
St. Louis.
A familiar face in the St. Louis area nonprofit community has assumed
the second ranking position on the senior management team at the
United Way of Greater St. Louis. Cheryl Polk is now the United Way’s
executive vice president and chief operations officer, succeeding
Peter Driscoll, who retired. Polk had been executive VP and major
gifts officer since coming to the United Way last July.
Previously, she was director of donor services for the American
Red Cross Biomedical Services, Missouri-Illinois Region, a position
Polk served in from November 1998 to June 2001. There she supervised
a department of more than 500 staff members with a budget of $26
million, one of the largest American Red Cross regions in the nation.
“We’re extremely happy to have someone of the quality and ability
of Cheryl Polk to be joining our management team,” says Gary Dollar,
president and CEO for the United Way. “Cheryl brings enormous experience
and intimate knowledge of the area to a key position within our
organization.”
Harper Joins St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission
The St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission (CVC) welcomes Charles
“Chuck” Harper as vice president of convention and tradeshow sales.
Harper comes to the CVC from the Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis, where
he had been general manager for the past two years. At the St. Louis
CVC, Harper will lead the organization’s sales efforts to attract
citywide conventions, one-hotel meetings, and trade shows for the
America’s Center convention complex.
Benson and Miller Named to Key Positions at GenAmerica

Jim Benson (left) was recently named president and CEO of GenAmerica
Financial and Richard Miller was promoted to executive vice president
and chief marketing officer of GenAmerica.
MetLife Inc. has named Jim Benson president and CEO of GenAmerica
Financial Corporation, a MetLife affiliate headquartered in St.
Louis. Benson succeeds Kevin Eichner. Benson also is president of
Individual Business for MetLife Inc. and serves as chairman, president
and CEO of New England Financial, another MetLife affiliate. In
addition, Benson was named Chairman of the Board at GenAmerica,
succeeding Richard Liddy, whose term expired in April.
In a related move, Richard Miller was named executive vice president
and chief marketing officer of GenAmerica, with responsibility for
all marketing and sales functions. Miller, who also serves as president
and CEO of Walnut Street Securities Inc., GenAmerica’s broker-dealer
subsidiary, was formerly senior vice president of Advisory Sales.
Ross & Baruzzini Promotes Kipp and Coleman

Rss & Baruzzini has promoted David Kipp, P.E. to chief operating
officer for the Transportation Division and Bruce Coleman, P.E.,
to chief operating officer for the Illinois Division of the engineering,
architectural design and consulting firm.
Kipp, who has been with Ross & Baruzzini for six years, has 21 years
of engineering experience in airport systems, serving as project
executive for several airport and airline clientele for aviation
facility design projects. His work has encompassed most major airport
specialty systems, including communications, information technology,
security, and baggage handling.

Coleman has been with Ross & Baruzzini for 11 years, most recently
serving as vice president—Electrical Engineering. With 15 years
of experience in the architectural/ engineering design industry,
Coleman’s experience includes plans, specifications and design for
commercial, institutional and industrial buildings for projects
in the fields of education, corrections, healthcare, government,
wastewater, housing and recreation.
Recently ranked by Building Design and Construction magazine
as 36th among top engineering/architectural companies in the U.S.,
Ross & Baruzzini is based in St. Louis, with offices in Dallas and
Houston, Texas; Belleville, Ill.; and Orlando, Fla.
Grieve Joins First National Bank of St. Louis

St. Louis.
First National Bank of St. Louis has elected Allen Grieve as senior
vice president and division manager of its Correspondent Banking
& Commercial Services Division. In addition to correspondent banking,
Grieve’s responsibilities encompass cash management and public entity
banking efforts at First National Bank.
For the past three years, Grieve has been chief executive officer
of Union Planters Correspondent Banking & Cash Manage-ment Services
Co. Also, he was senior vice president for Cash Management and Wholesale
Operating Services at Magna Corp. Inc.
Grieve currently serves on the Missouri Bankers Association Execu-tive
Management Commission. Also, he has been an instructor at Saint
Louis University School of Business and Administration, Washington
University, and an adjunct professor of finance at Webster University.
Mackie Elected Arts & Education Council Board Chair

Peter Mackie of UMB Bank has been elected chair of The Arts &
Education Council Board of Directors.
Peter Mackie, chairman of the St. Louis Trust and Wealth Management
division of UMB Bank, has been elected chair of The Arts & Education
Council Board of Directors. Mackie succeeds Steven Swyers, managing
partner at Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP, who has served as A&E’s
board chair since 1998. Swyers will remain active on the board as
treasurer and chair the Council’s finance committee.
In addition to Mackie, other A&E elected officers are Lisa McMullin,
vice chair; Mary Ann Hogan, secretary; and Swyers, treasurer.
“A community with a rich cultural climate makes a better place to
live and work,” Mackie says. “Because of the need for increased
community support, I am proud to help the A&E board and staff deliver
the message. It’s our civic responsibility to invest in the future
of our community.”
Since 1963, when the United Way of Greater St. Louis decided to
devote its resources to health and human services organizations,
The Arts & Education Council has filled the void in supporting area
arts education. A&E’s funding comes from payroll deduction in 160
area corporations, businesses and schools; private contributions,
corporate gifts and foundation grants. In its nearly 40-year history,
A&E has distributed more than $60 million to arts and arts education
programs through-out 12 counties in Missouri and Illinois.
Schoenhard Elected to American College of Healthcare Executives

officer of SSM Health-care in St. Louis, has been elected to serve
on the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Board of
Governors.
William Schoenhard, FACHE, executive vice president and chief operating
officer of SSM Healthcare in St. Louis, has been elected to serve
on the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Board of
Governors. He will serve a four-year term representing ACHE affiliates
in District 5, which includes Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota,
Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
Prior to being elected an ACHE Governor, Schoenhard served as ACHE
Regent for Missouri Gateway Area 1997 to 2001. Also, he is chairman
of the Missouri Hospital Association and serves on the boards for
the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board, Mid America
Transplant Services, the Greater St. Louis Division of the American
Heart Association, and Lindenwood University.
Schoenhard has served SSM Healthcare in his current position since
1986. SSM Healthcare operates and manages 19 hospitals and three
nursing homes in four states.

At its annual meeting, the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society
installed the following officers: Erol Amon, M.D., J.D., president;
Jeffrey Thomasson, M.D., president-elect; Norman Druck, M.D., vice
president; and Kathy Maupin, M.D., secretary. New councilors include
Bradley Freeman, M.D.; Gordon Goldman, M.D.; Farrin Manian, M.D.;
Linda Rodrigue, M.D.; John Seidenfeld, M.D.; and Garry Vickar, M.D.
Now in its 161st year and with more than 2,200 members, the St.
Louis Metropolitan Medical Society is the area’s largest physician
member association.
Ritz-Carlton Names Campbell as New GM

Jonathan Campbell has joined The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis, as general
manager. He replaces Chuck Harper, who recently joined the St. Louis
Convention & Visitors Commission.
Campbell brings to The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis 12 years of experience
with the hotel company. Most recently, he was pre-opening general
manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Georgetown in Washington, D.C. Prior
to that, he opened The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lampur in Malaysia, where
he was based for four years.
St. Louis’ only recipient of both the AAA Four Diamond and Mobil
Four Star awards, the 301-room hotel offers lodging and dining services
as well as facilities for meetings and weddings and offers the largest
wine room in St. Louis.
Frueh Appointed to Missouri Dam & Reservoir Safety Council
Missouri Governor Bob Holden has appointed Richard Frueh, P.E.,
executive vice president of Shannon & Wilson in St. Louis, to the
Missouri Dam and Reservoir Safety Council and the Missouri Senate
recently confirmed Frueh’s appointment. The Council oversees the
Dam and Reservoir Safety Program in the state and is responsible
for the developing standards and regulations for certain new and
existing, non-federal dams. This includes review of engineering
plans, conducting hydrologic and structural analysis, monitoring
construction, and safety inspections. The seven-member council,
all appointed by the Governor, is part of the Geological Survey
and Resource Assessment Division of the Department of Natural Resources.
