Lamping,
Reeves and Slay Brief RCGA Executive Committee on Priority Objectives
In a unique forum covering several major issues, Cardinals President
Mark Lamping, Downtown Now! Executive Director Tom Reeves,
and newly-inaugurated Mayor Francis Slay were the special
guests at an RCGA Executive Committee meeting held in April at Downtown
Now!’s new marketing center at 1533 Washington Avenue.
Mayor Slay’s presentation to the Executive Committee came less than
48 hours after being sworn in as the City’s 45th Mayor. Slay outlined
his immediate objectives, a sampling of which include strengthening
the City’s financial position, central city revitalization, and
rebuilding the City’s population and business base.
Lamping commended the RCGA for its continued strong advocacy for
the proposed new ballpark and ballpark village downtown. Lamping
stressed that the proposal makes a lot of sense from an economic
development perspective—an independent analysis by Development Strategies
projects a 10,000-job impact and a $1.4 billion annual economic
benefit from the 25-acre ballpark village and a new $370 million
ballpark.
Under Reeves’ capable leadership, Downtown Now! is actively pursuing
its overall goal of strengthening the central city as the region’s
premier mixed-use office / housing / entertainment district. On
Sunday, May 20, Downtown Now! hosted the first of two loft-housing
tours along Washington Avenue. A second tour will be held on Sunday,
Sept. 16. |
