The Regional
Business Council, made up of executives from major large- to medium-size
regional companies, is dedicated to increasing the number of businesspersons
involved in and investing in regional growth.
Regional
Business Council Charts Agenda In Inaugural Meeting
After
eight months of active planning and development, The Regional
Business Council, chaired by John
Capps,
president and CEO of Plaza Motor Co., held its inaugural full
Council meeting on March 30.
Among
the highlights of this first meeting was a presentation by Council
Treasurer Ralph
Clermont,
managing partner of KPMG LLP, on the initiatives identified
by the Council members as most important, based on an extensive
survey of its members.
The
67-member Council decided it would play a major role in regional
workforce development; Forward St. Louis, an initiative to establish
a common public policy agenda for influence at the regional,
state and national levels; and to positively promoting the region
to its citizens.
The
Workforce Development Committee of The Regional Business Council
is co-chaired by Albert
Fontenot, Jr.,
chairman, president and CEO of Eagle OPG, Inc.; Terrance
Egger,
publisher of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch; Susan
Elliott,
chairman and CEO of SSE; and W.
Michael Ross,
president and CEO, Union Planters Bank of Missouri.
The
Forward St. Louis Committee of The Council is co-chaired by
Thomas
Dunne, Sr.,
chairman and CEO, Fred Weber, Inc.; Raymond
Harmon,
chairman and CEO, HASCO International, Inc.; Bruce
Holland,
president, Holland-Hinrichs Construction Co.; and Patricia
Nooney,
president, Coldwell Banker Commercial American Spectrum.
The
Promoting the Region Committee is co-chaired by Karen
Carroll,
vice president and general manager, KMOX News/Talk 1120, and Jack
Thomas,
President, Coin Acceptors, Inc.
Awards,
Honors, and Recognition to Regional Business Council Members
Steven
N. Cousins,
partner, Armstrong Teasdale LLP, was appointed to a two-year term
on the Board of the Saint Louis Art Museum.
Donald
P. Gallop, chairman, Gallop Johnson & Neuman LC, was appointed
co-chairman of the Lewis and Clark Commission by Gov. Mel Carnahan.
Robert
D. Millstone, president, CEO and director of Millstone Bangert,
Inc., was named the co-chair for the East-West Gateway Coordinating
Council's Transportation Policy Council, and the Infrastructure
Committee of The Regional Business Council.
Steven
F. Schankman, co-president of Contemporary Group, a division
of SFX Entertainment, is the new co-chairman of Zoofari 2001.
Michael
Staenberg, president of THF Realty, received the 1999 Chesterfield
Business of the Year award in recognition of the company's outstanding
community service.
