According to the magazine, “Voters naturally praise those finance
executives who keep clean books and effectively communicate with
the market about their companies’ performance. But they also show
a growing appreciation for CFOs who transcend the traditional number-crunching,
cost-controlling role and embrace responsibility for improving operations,
driving revenue growth and executing big acquisitions.”
The magazine surveyed 900 research analysts and portfolio managers
at 330 money management firms and 260 sell-side analysts at nearly
75 brokerage firms.
NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AMONG
TOP 10 IN NATION
For the 10th consecutive year, the Northwestern Mutual Internship
program has been included on the America’s Top 10 Internships list
in the Vault Guide to Internships. Only two other organizations
have earned the honor for 10 straight years.
The guide bases its internship rankings on a variety of factors
that include substantive work, compensation, real-world experiences,
selectivity, subjective expertise and how internships with the company
are perceived to potential employers.
Both Northwestern Mutual Financial Network offices in St. Louis,
The Hempstead Group and The Qualy Group, participate extensively
in the internship program. Participants learn the basics of the
insurance and financial services industry and receive the same training
that full-time representatives experience. Annually, the program
offers internships to approximately 1,000 students.

RODGERS TOWNSEND HONORED BY MARKETINGSHERPA
AND BTOB MAGAZINES
Advertising agency Rodgers Townsend has attracted the attention
of both MarketingSherpa and BtoB magazines. MarketingSherpa
picked one of the agency’s viral marketing campaigns to include
in its Viral Marketing Hall of Fame. The online publication’s editorial
staff reviewed nearly 100 detailed entries to pick the top 12 viral
campaigns for the 2006 Hall of Fame. They selected 12 campaigns
that embody the true spirit of viral marketing, which compels consumers
to share the content with others.
The award-winning site is located at www.sbcnationwide.com/destination/tree/index.cfm.
The agency created the “mySBC eBill Service: Trees in the Forest
of Change” site to promote SBC’s eBill service, which saves paper
and provides an eco-friendly approach to bill payment. MarketingSherpa’s
summary of the “Forest of Change” site notes that the campaign “demonstrates
that with thoughtful design and execution, viral can work for almost
every brand and demographic online.”
BtoB magazine has included Rodgers Townsend on its annual
list of the top 50 business-to-business advertising agencies. Rodgers
Townsend is listed in the report as a medium-sized advertising agency
with estimated revenue of $12.7 million and estimated business-to-business
revenue of $10.3 million in 2005. AT&T, The Hartford, Energizer,
Maritz and Ameren are listed as key clients.
Winners are selected based on a combination of factors that include
growth in revenue, percent of business-to-business work, new clients,
exceptional campaigns, additional awards and other demonstrated
growth of business.
INDUSTRYWEEK
FEATURES PFIZER’S DRUG RESEARCH IN
ST. LOUIS
Pfizer Inc. is the spotlight of an article titled “St. Louis: Gateway
for New Medicines” in the May 2006 issue of IndustryWeek
magazine. Writer Jonathan Katz discusses the pharmaceutical giant’s
decision to consolidate its research and development operations
in St. Louis and its efforts to foster greater collaboration among
researchers who are developing new drugs.
“Pfizer maintained research operations in St. Louis after the purchase
(of Pharmacia Corp. in 2003) because of the city’s reputation as
a center for developing biologics, including growth hormones and
inhaled insulin, and small-molecule medicines used to treat arthritis,
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and respiratory diseases,”
writes Katz.
Pfizer considers St. Louis a strategic location for developing new
drugs, according to Katz, who notes that “The Gateway City also
is home to the highly regarded Washington University School of Medicine,
which has contributed to new drug research.”
A state-of-the-art $200 million research facility that Pfizer is
constructing at its Chesterfield campus will unite local researchers
in a more collaborative environment. Once construction is finished,
approximately 200 researchers from Creve Coeur, Mo., and another
50 from St. Louis will move to the campus and join 950 researchers
and support personnel who already work there, according to the article.
Pfizer hopes that the collaborative environment ultimately will
spur more drug development.
