John E. Neal has been named the ninth president of Maryville University of Saint Louis and
succeeds Keith Lovin, who retired in June. Neal has served as president of Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan., since 2000. Prior to joining Ottawa in 1997, Neal was vice president for institutional advancement at Webster University in St. Louis.
Dan Sparling has been named Maryville University’s new dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Professional Programs. He has been at the university since 1975 and served as interim dean before deciding to become a candidate for the permanent position.

Ken Katzif and Vladimir Masek have been named principals at Buckingham Asset Management. Katzif, who joined the firm in 2002, also serves as the company’s chief operating officer. Dr. Edward Burns, medical director of Hospice at St. Anthony’s Medical Center, has been awarded the 2004 Heart of Hospice Award from the Missouri Hospice & Palliative Care Association. The award honors a person affiliated with a member hospice who went above and beyond the call of duty to enhance the quality of life for hospice patients. Burns won the award over 36 other nominees.
