VARIETY
INTERNATIONAL HONORS SCHANKMAN AS TELETHON CHAIR
| Contemporary
Productions’ president and Telethon chairman, STEVE
SCHANKMAN, with VINCE GILL backstage at
the Telethon. This year’s Telethon raised more than
$2.3 million for St. Louis’ disabled and disadvantaged
children. |
|
Steven Schankman, president of Contemporary Productions, LLC, was
honored with a Presidential Citation award at the recent Variety
International convention in Chicago for his continued dedication
to St. Louis Variety and the disabled and disadvantaged children
the organization serves.
Schankman is in his seventh year of lending his entertainment industry
expertise to St. Louis Variety as the organization’s Telethon Chairman.
He also serves on the executive committee of Variety’s Board of
Directors. During his tenure as Telethon Chairman, Schankman has
helped St. Louis raise more than $18.9 million for Variety’s children.
Contemporary Productions was founded in 1968 as a local concert
producer. Since that time, the company has grown in size and expertise
to become a leader in the entertainment, special events and marketing
industries. “Produced by Contemporary” is well-known across the
country, having produced virtually every major touring artist of
the past three decades in performances throughout the U.S., Europe
and Canada including Billy Joel, Elton John, The Rolling Stones,
Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Whitney Houston. Contemporary Productions
was sold in 1998 to New York-based SFX Entertainment. With the sale
of SFX Entertainment to Clear Channel Communications in 2000, Schankman,
president and founder together with Sam Foxman, director, left to
re-launch Contemporary Productions, L.L.C., as a privately held
international entertainment, marketing and venue management company.
In previous years, Schankman has helped Variety bring in such acts
as Kenny Rogers, Bernadette Peters, the Righteous Brothers, Gladys
Knight, Ray Charles and other national entertainment legends for
the Telethon. This year, Schankman played a major role in bringing
in Wynonna Judd and Vince Gill for the annual extravaganza, which
raised more than $2.3 million for St. Louis’ disabled and disadvantaged
children.
“We are so thrilled that Steve is being honored for his work with
Variety,” says Variety Board President Tony Ponturo, vice president
of Global Media and Sports Marketing for Anheuser-Busch Inc., and
president and CEO of Busch Media Group, an Anheuser-Busch subsidiary.
“Without Steve’s support, Variety would not be able to continue
fulfilling its mission of providing vital medical equipment and
programs to thousands of St. Louis’ neediest children.”
