United Way
Announces Chairs for Two Key Giving Initiatives

Recognizing the continuing role of women and African Americans in
St. Louis leadership, the United Way of Greater St. Louis has announced
the new chairs of the fund- raising initiatives recognizing these
groups.
For the next two years, Arnold and Hazel Donald are the volunteer
co-chairs of the Charmaine Chapman Society, formerly the African
American Leadership Giving Initiative. Renamed in honor of Charmaine
Chapman, the late president and CEO of St. Louis’ United Way, the
Society recognizes African Americans who give $1,000 or more to
the annual United Way campaign.
Arnold Donald is the chairman and CEO for Merisant Co., maker of
Equal sweetener. Hazel Donald is a community leader actively involved
on the boards of several nonprofit organizations and charities.
The Donalds have been with the Society since it started in 1994.
Last year, the 526 Society members, including 136 new members, raised
more than $1.4 million.

Chairing the 2002 Women’s Leadership Giving Initiative will be Patricia
(Pat) Mercurio, president of Bank of America in Missouri. Similar
to the Charmaine Chapman Society, the initiative recognizes women
who support the United Way annual campaign with contributions of
$1,000 or more.
Started in 1996, and patterned after the successful African-American
initiative, the 2001 Women’s Leadership Initiative raised more than
$3.3 million for United Way of Greater St. Louis.
The United Way of Greater St. Louis ranks first among United Ways
around the country in dollars raised as a percentage of the total
campaign. Plus, the Women’s Leadership Giving Initiative and Charmaine
Chapman Society are recognized as best practices among the more
than 1,400 United Ways nationwide.

Robbins has been vice president and director of marketing for the
St. Louis Post-Dispatch since 1997. She has 25 years experience
in the media industry and prior to joining the Post-Dispatch,
Robbins served as innovations director at the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Ramee Appointed GM of Washington Avenue Bistro

Washington Avenue Bistro, the new signature restaurant at Renaissance
St. Louis Suites Hotel, has appointed Peter Ramee as general manager.
Ramee will oversee food and beverage operations for the restaurant
as well as the hotel’s room service and lobby bar. He joins the
new hotel with nearly 20 years of experience in the hospitality
industry.
Chase Park Plaza Promotes Westerlin
Bruce Westerlin has moved into the office of the general manager
at the Chase Park Plaza. Previously, Westerlin, served as director
of sales and marketing for the luxury hotel on North Kingshighway.
Kling Elected to Computer Sales International Board

elected to the Computer Sales International Board of Directors.
Computer Sales International Inc. (CSI) has announced the election
of S. Lee Kling to the CSI Board of Directors. Kling is chairman
of the board of Kling Rechter and Company, a merchant banking company
located in St. Louis. CSI is a specialized commercial finance company
that purchases and leases information-technology equipment.
Prior to co-founding Kling Rechter and Company, Kling served as
chairman of the board of Landmark Bancshares Corporation in St.
Louis. The company merged with Magna Group, Inc. in 1991.
Pullan Named General Manager of Adam’s Mark

The Adam’s Mark St. Louis Hotel has named Reed Pullan, as general
manager. Pullan, a 25-year veteran of Marriott International, most
recently served at the Westfields Marriott Conference Center Resort
in Chantilly, Va. His career includes serving as general manager
of five different Marriott properties, one of which was a major
downtown convention hotel.
For Pullan, the new position represents a return to Missouri. From
1988 to 1989 he served as resident manager of Marriott’s Tan-Tar-A
Resort in the Lake of the Ozarks.
McClure Succeeds Baer as President of UniGroup Inc.

UniGroup Inc. has named Richard McClure to succeed Robert Baer
as president and chief operating officer. After a 25-year career
with the UniGroup companies, Baer stepped down as president in April.
McClure has been on the UniGroup management team since 1995, most
recently serving as group executive vice president of corporate
financial services. From 1985 until 1992, he served as chief of
staff for then-Missouri Governor/now U.S. Attorney General John
Ashcroft. St. Louis-based UniGroup owns household goods movers United
Van Lines and Mayflower Transit.
Allegiant Bank Promotes Pilcher

Dean Pilcher has been promoted to senior vice president of mortgage
banking at Allegiant Bank. A 10-year veteran of the mortgage banking
industry, Pilcher joined Allegiant in December 2000. He serves on
the St. Louis Mortgage Bankers Association board as co-chair of
the agency’s, technology, education and MHDC committees.
Leritz, Plunkert & Bruning Announces New Partner

have announced Kurtis Reeg as a partner in the firm. For more than
20 years, Reeg’s litigation practice has focused on toxic torts
and products liability, representing product manufacturers and distributors
as well as multiple insurance clients across the country. In 2001,
he received the Andrew C. Hecker Award for excellence in writing.
St. Louis Academy of Science Honors Nine
The Outstanding St. Louis Scientists Awards Dinner in April honored
nine women and men for their work in research institutions, academia
and industry. Featured speaker of the program was 2001 Nobel Laureate
William Knowles, Ph.D. The retired Monsanto Distinguished Service
Fellow also received special recognition from The Academy of Science
of St. Louis the event sponsor.
