St. Louis is a world class sport city and is proud of its 2006 World
Series champion Cardinals. The Cardinals have now won 10 World Series,
more than any other National League team. In 2000, The Sporting
News named St. Louis the “Best Sports City” and in 2005 the
“Best Baseball City.”

to host a wide variety of other events. The Arena will have
just over 10,000 seats for basketball.

Greater St. Louis is also home to more than 100 parks, over 100
public and private golf courses, and some 200 miles of trails for
cycling, running, and walking. A network of hiking and bicycle trails
that follow the area’s great rivers is emerging as one of the best
in the country. The area’s largest park, Forest Park, is one of
the biggest metropolitan parks in the country, and features many
of the city’s premier attractions, including the Saint Louis Zoo,
the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Missouri History Museum, the Municipal
Opera, two golf courses, dozens of athletic fields, and much more.
Raging Rivers WaterPark in Grafton, Ill., and Six Flags St. Louis
in Eureka, Mo., are favorite local destinations for families and
children. Just a few hours’ drive away is the 55,000-acre Lake of
the Ozarks, Missouri’s largest body of water. Nearby, too, are many
beautiful rivers and streams ideal for canoeing. They include the
Ozark National Scenic Riverways, the nation’s first scenic waterway,
established by Congress in 1964. Innumerable destinations for hunting,
fishing, camping, hiking—even spelunking and skydiving—encircle
the area. In short, the St. Louis area is the perfect location for
lovers of the outdoors.
Archdiocesan Children’s Choir
has over 90 children from over 60 parishes in the Archdiocese. In
addition to their regular schedule, they have performed in several
cathedrals across the nation. Recently, they performed in Rome,
Italy as part of the International Congress of Children’s Choirs.
Arts and Issues Series at SIUE
brings exceptional speakers and world-class performers to the campus
of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Arts League Players is a cutting-
edge Metro East performing arts group that has been performing for
more than 20 years.
The Bach Society of Saint Louis sponsors the Bach Society
Chorus to perform the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and other composers.
Concerts, educational programs and outreach programs are presented
to educate, entertain and enrich the lives of the people of the
St. Louis region.
Belleville Philharmonic Society
is the nation’s second oldest continuously performing symphony orchestra
made up of three different performance groups: the Metro East Junior
Orchestra, the Belleville Philharmonic and the Belleville Philhar-monic
Chorale serving the Metro-East area.
Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center
is certain to become one of St. Louis’ new landmarks. The Center
brings the performing arts to the University of Missouri-St. Louis
and to audiences from the St. Louis area and across the Midwest.
UM- St. Louis students have incredible opportunities to train and
display their talents in a world class performance hall while serving
as a cultural classroom for the community.
Dance St. Louis brings prominent
dance companies and performers to St. Louis.
The Circus Arts Foundation of Missouri
(CAFM) is the parent non-profit organization of Circus
Flora, St. Louis’ very own theater under a big top tent. Circus
Flora excels in the art of combining a traditional European circus
with modern theater techniques creating a “magical theater in a
sawdust ring.”
The Florissant Civic Center Theatre
is home to several community based theatre companies, including
the Hawthorne Players and The Alpha Players.
Fox Theatre, located in the
eight-block, Grand Center national historic district, features popular
performers and Broadway musicals.
Gash Voight Dance Theatre’s
all-female dance troupe performs thoughtful interpretations for
St. Louis audiences.
The Gateway Festival Orchestra
provides summer concerts at Washington University.
Gateway Men’s Chorus performs
a full season series of three major concerts each year.

Hawaiian Polynesian Revue is

The Kirkwood Children’s Chorale

The Metro Theatre Company is
a professional touring ensemble that develops and produces original
theater pieces.
The Mid America Dance Company
is one of the oldest and largest professional modern dance companies
in the Midwest and one of the few remaining modern repertory companies
in the county.
Opera Theatre of Saint Louis
is one of the country’s premiere opera companies and offers innovative
performances sung in English.
Philharmonic Society of St. Louis
is a full-sized symphony orchestra of 100 dedicated volunteer musicians
who have achieved a professional level of performance.
Piwacket Theatre for Children,
headquartered in St. Louis, is a traveling theater group. They can
be seen locally at five community locations with multiple shows
per year and in various states across the U.S. Since their formation
in 1989, the group has performed for 200,000 people across Missouri,
Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and South Carolina.
Repertory Theater of St. Louis
has a national reputation for producing live theater of uncompromising
quality.
St. Charles Municipal Band performs
for the Summer Concert Band Series in Frontier Park.
St. Louis Ballet consistently
builds a culturally rich organization with artists from around the
world and coast-to-coast.
St. Louis Cathedral Concerts
offers spectacular music featuring the world’s best musicians in
one of the world’s grandest Cathedrals.
St. Louis Chamber Chorus ranges
from the Renaissance to the present day, and is sung in the original
language usually without accompaniment. Programs match music to
venue and occasion, with the finest a cappella compositions.
The St. Louis Classical Guitar Society
presents a dazzling array of star performers on fretted instruments
and offers a wide variety of educational programs for area young
people as well as performing outlets for amateurs.
Center Stage Theatre, a theatre
arts program for college students and community residents produced
by the faculty of the St. Charles Community College Arts and Humanities
Division.
St. Louis Black Repertory Company,
the largest African-American cultural performing arts organization
in Missouri, offers six productions each season.
St. Louis Cultural Flamenco Society
performs and teaches Spanish Dance in the St. Louis Area.
St. Louis Gateway Storytellers
has continued to be a group of individuals whose mission is to promote
the enjoyment of storytelling as an art form.
St. Louis Muny Opera is the
country’s oldest and largest outdoor musical theater and presents
Broadway musicals in enchanting surroundings.
Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra
has been nominated for Grammy Awards every year since 1977, with
a total of six Grammies and more than 50 nominations.
St. Peters Community & Arts Center
is known throughout the region as a destination for the arts.
The Sheldon Concert Hall is
a professional theatre company dedicated to producing the indigenous
American art form of musical theatre at the Kirkwood Civic Center.
Stages St. Louis is a professional
theatre company dedicated to producing the indigenous American art
form of musical theatre at the Kirkwood Civic Center.
UMB Bank Pavilion offers a summer
concert series with a wide variety of prominent entertainers.
Young Audiences produces and
presents auditorium performances, classroom workshops, artist-in-residence
programs and professional development workshops in music, dance,
theater, storytelling, and the visual and literary arts.
The American Kennel Club Museum of the
Dog, known as the Dog Museum, commemorates man’s centuries-old
relationship with the dog with a collection of artwork including
dog paintings, bronze sculptures and etchings.
Armed Forces Museum of St. Louis
is dedicated to the preservation of military history from all services
for all eras and nations. The Museum has an extensive collection
of historic military vehicles, aircraft, and memorabilia.
Black World History Museum tells
the stories of famous and not-so-famous African-American Missourians
including George Washington Carver, Dred and Harriet Scott, musician
Clark Terry, Clara Brown. Hiriam Young and others.
City Museum, recently named
as one of the “Greatest Public Spaces in the World” by New York-based
non-profit Project for Public Spaces, is a unique interactive museum
filled with caves, an aquarium, an art studio for children, and
more.
The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis
is one of the leading voices in the world of contemporary art. The
Contemporary is dedicated to exhibiting the visual arts and artists
of our time and to producing nationally recognized education programs.
Gateway Arch, on the banks of
the Mississippi River, is a dramatic monument to Thomas Jefferson’s
purchase of what is now much of the American west. In 2005, this
630 foot stainless steel structure celebrated its 40th birthday.
Visitors can take a tram to the top or tour the Museum of Westward
Expansion.
The Holocaust Museum and Learning Center
houses an exhibition that provides a chronological history of the
Holocaust with personal accounts of Holocaust survivors who immigrated
to St. Louis.
Latzer Homestead/Albert Kaiser Memorial
Park and Museum/Highland Historical Society offers tours
of the home of the founder of Pet Milk Co. and a working miniature
Pet milk plant.
Madison County Historical Museum and Archival Rivalry
has permanent exhibits depicting Madison County Illinois history;
period furnished rooms; displays of antiques, quilts, historic costumes
and Native American artifacts.
The Magic House St. Louis Children’s
Museum is the 3rd-most visited children’s museum in the nation.
Missouri History Museum*
houses a variety of exhibits and educational resources focusing
on the history of the St. Louis region, the state of Missouri and
the American West.
Museum of Transportation St. Louis County
Park is one of the largest collections of transportation
vehicles in the world, including over seventy real locomotives representing
the rail power that built America.
Museum of Westward Expansion,
accredited by the American Association of Museums, tells the history
of the American Indians and pioneers who ventured west of the Mississippi
River.
The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts
is a museum-like facility with galleries that are open to the public
two days a week. The building houses 20th century and modern art
including many pieces on loan from the collection of Emily and the
late Joseph Pulitzer.
Old Courthouse*,
scene of the historic lawsuits by slave Dred Scott and suffragist
Virginia Louisa Minor, features restored courtrooms, a beautifully-decorated
dome, Dioramas and a film and gallery depicting the history of St.
Louis.
Saint Louis Art Museum ranks
among the nation’s top 10 comprehensive art museums, with an average
of 500,000 visitors annually. There are more than 30,000 works in
its collection.
St. Louis Science Center*
is the 5th most visited science center in the nation and the 8th
most visited in the world. It serves as a bridge between scientist
and layperson.
Saint Louis University Museum of Art
offers art and artifacts relevant to the long history of Jesuit
liberal arts education including works of local, national and internationally
acclaimed artists.
The University Museum at SIUE
offers an encyclopedic collection displayed throughout the campus.
William and Florence Schmidt Arts Center
showcases an extensive college and foundation collections and provides
unique opportunities to experience art.
Anheuser-Busch
Brewery*: Tours of
AB’s headquarters take visitors on a memorable journey through an
important part of America’s brewing heritage. The brewery is also
home to one of the three traveling Budweiser Clydesdales teams.
The Butterfly House is a glass
enclosure with lush flowering tropical plants and more than 100
species of butterflies from around the world.
Cahokia Mounds State Park*,
a World Heritage Site, preserves the remains of the most sophisticated
prehistoric native civilization north of Mexico, within a 2,200–acre
tract.
Great River Road has been designated
part of a 50-mile National Scenic Byway. Only 20 other roadways
in America have received the scenic byway designation.

Gateway International Raceway

Laumeier Sculpture Park*
is one of the major sculpture parks in the nation.
Laclede’s Landing*
a restored, nine-block, nineteenth century industrial area, features
unique restaurants and sidewalk cafes. At night, horse-drawn carriages
and live music add to the atmosphere.
Missouri Botanical Garden is
a major cultural institution, an historic landmark and a world-renowned
scientific research center. Its 79-acres include a formal English
garden, a traditional Japanese garden, a Chinese garden, the Flower
Trail garden; and the Climatron, the first geodesic-domed green
house in North America.
Missouri Wineries*:
Visitors can taste award-winning wines, enjoy tours, specialty shops,
bakeries, bed and breakfasts, fine restaurants and live entertainment.
Raging Rivers Water Park, one
of the Metro East’s top attractions, offers a gigantic wave pool,
water slides and a kids play area.
Six Flags St. Louis: 1.56 million
visitors a year enjoy eight themed lands of exciting adventure,
thrilling rides, spectacular shows and a host of other fun attractions.
St. Charles National Historic District*
is a ten-block Nationally Registered Historic District that preserves
early St. Charles. It has brick streets, gas lights, lovingly restored
buildings and Missouri’s First State Capitol. The Frenchtown District
has unique antique and collectible shops, fine restaurants, tea
rooms, several wineries and a micro brewery.
St. Louis Forest Park*
is at the center of the urban area and encompasses over 1,300 acres,
with over six miles of biking trails, 20 lakes and ponds, 30 athletic
fields and two golf courses.
Saint Louis Zoo*:
One of only three free zoos in the nation and named America’s #1
zoo by Zagat Survey and Parenting magazine. The Saint Louis Zoo
is home to over 11,000 animals. It hosted nearly three million visitors
in 2006. Featured exhibits include the River’s Edge, with elephants,
hippos, and cheetahs, and the Penguin and Puffin Coast, which includes
the only walk-through sub-Antarctic penguin exhibit in North America.
St. Louis Union Station*:
This restored National Historic Landmark covering 11.5 acres, features
a hotel, a unique marketplace of shops, assortments of fine restaurants
and faces, live entertainment and a lake for paddle boating.
Art on the Square is a premier event in the metro-east
region that fosters the appreciation of the visual and performing
arts to a diverse public by presenting an exhibit and sale of fine
art, providing educational and enjoyable workshops for children
and promoting the importance of the creative process.
Fair St. Louis & Celebrate St. Louis
combine for the first time in the summer of 2006 to bring more entertainment
andfireworks to downtown. Activities include live music and entertainment,
thrilling air shows, educational activities, delicious food and
magnificent fireworks.
Juneteenth Heritage and Jazz Festival
feature jazz and blues greats.
Saint Louis Art Fair is an annual
event on the streets of Clayton. Artists bring their creations for
display, food is served by some of St. Louis’ finest eateries, and
several music stages are set up.
St. Louis Jazz Festival is a
two-day event that combines top-flight national and local acts in
Clayton’s Shaw Park.
Schlafly’s Art Outside started
in 2004 as an alternative art fair focusing on local artists. Located
in Maplewood at the Schlafly Bottleworks, this free event includes
a wide range of artists and media as well as musical performances.

AND EDUCATION |
Art East was initiated in an
effort to encourage creative exchange and dispel the myth that nothing
was happening on the “east side.” Artists participate by opening
their studios to the public or through exhibits organized in alternative
spaces and galleries. The EAST in Arts East is an acronym for “Edwardsville
Alton Studio Tour.”
Art Saint Louis is a not-for-profit
visual arts co-op gallery, organization and advocate exhibiting
work by established and emerging artists from the St. Louis region.
Arts in Transit (AIT) is a community
partnership program of Metro. AIT integrates public art and urban
design with community and enhancement initiatives.
COCA (Center of Creative Arts)
multidisciplinary and multicultural arts programs include performances
in its theatre; educational classes, camps, and workshops serving
individuals ages six months through adult; artists’ residencies;
exhibits of contemporary art in the Millstone Gallery at COCA; and
an extensive outreach program offered to low-income youth through
its nationally recognized Urban Arts Program.
Chesterfield Arts works to foster
the growth of the visual, performing and literary arts in the Chesterfield
area by acting as a presenter of quality artists from around the
region and as a catalyst for arts activity.
Classic 99 KFUO FM 99.1 is tuned
into classical music and the arts in St. Louis.
Community Music School of Webster University
provides the finest educational programs in music as well as outstanding
performance opportunities and performances.
Craft Alliance is a nationally
respected non-profit visual arts center providing inspiration and
education to the entire community through exhibitions, instruction
and a gallery shop. Located in the Loop, the organization offers
classes, gallery talks and a community outreach program to continually
expose new audiences to the unique qualities of contemporary craft.
The Department of Theater and Dance-SIUE
provides instruction and practical performance experience in all
phases of theater and dance production for the stage.
The Foundry Art Centre is an
educational, visual and performing arts center housed in a 37,000-square-foot,
former railcar factory in the historic riverfront district of St.
Charles.
Freeburg Historical Society
is a very active historical and genealogical organization.
Gitana Productions Inc. is a
local arts and education organization.
Greater St. Louis Arts & Education-al Council
is a non-profit organization, which raises funds from the private
sector to support the arts and arts education activities in the
St. Louis metropolitan area.
The Katherine Dunham Centers for Arts and
Humanities are a non-profit, multi-disciplinary arts
organization founded by, and currently operated under the artistic
direction and leadership of dance legend Katherine Dunham. The Center’s
operate the Katherine Dunham Dynamic Museum, East St. Louis’ only
cultural center.
KETC Channel 9 brings quality,
educational programming to the community.
KMWU 90.7 FM provides in-depth
news and intelligent talk radio.
Lewis & Clark State Historic Site
was designed as the location for one of the national signature events
for commemoration of the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial.
Madison County Arts Council
is a community based nonprofit cultural organization that provides
services and resources to artists and organizations and presents
and produces culturally diverse programming for the public.
Metro South Arts Council act
as facilitators to enrich and promote the arts offered in our community.
National Society of Arts and Letters
is a member organization that is dedicated to assisting young Americans
aspiring a career in one of the five visual, performing arts.
Riverwind Storytellers Company
is a non-profit organization of story loving folk, of all ages and
backgrounds.
St. Charles Community College
offers Center Stage Theatre,
a theatre arts program for college students and community residents
produced by the faculty of the SCC Arts and Humanities Division.
St. Louis Arts & Education Council
is a non-profit organization, which raises funds from the private
sector to support the arts and arts education activities in the
St. Louis metropolitan area.
The St. Louis Artists’ Guild
is a resource and advocate for creative expression, serving the
Midwest as a center that exhibits, supports, and promotes the visual
arts.
St. Louis Art Works is a unique
summer employment program for St. Louis area youth.
St. Louis Irish Arts is the
local Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, (Translated: “A Gathering
of Irish Musicians”), based in Dublin, Ireland.
St. Louis Mid-Sized Arts Cooperative
bring art into schools and communities with residencies, classes,
teacher’s workshops, internships, and performances utilized as means
of reaching their audiences.
St. Louis Regional Arts Commission
is a granting organization located in St. Louis distributing over
$3,000,000 to the arts and organizations in St. Louis City and County.
Springboard to Learning provides
in-school programs to break down stereotypes and broaden children’s
world view.
Warren County Fine Arts Council
mounts a variety of exhibits on an annual and biannual basis.
The Webster University Film Series
is a year-round program that prides itself as the most comprehensive
alternative film series in the St. Louis area.
St. Louisans can try their luck at Fairmount
Park Race Track or at any of these casinos: Alton
Belle, Casino Queen,
Harrah’s Casino, The
President Casino on the Admiral, and Ameristar
Casino St. Charles.
In addition there will soon be two new casinos currently being built
by Pinnacle Entertainment. Their $430 million downtown casino and
hotel project began construction in September 2005 and is scheduled
to open in 2007. The project includes a 90,000-square-foot casino,
a 200-room luxury hotel, business center, restaurants and 12,000
square feet of meeting and convention space. Pinnacle has just announced
a second phase of this development, “Lumiere Place” will include
375 condos, retail space, a grocery and more which will raise it’s
investment to nearly $1 billion.
Pinnacle has also started construction of a $375 million River City
Casino & Hotel in Lemay in south St. Louis County which is scheduled
to open in 2008. The casino project will able include a 100-room
hotel, spa, restaurants, a bowling alley, a multiplex movie theatre,
an indoor ice rink, a public park with athletic fields, a music
venue.
