Washington University in St. Louis is the third-best medical school and the 11th-best university overall in the United States, according to U.S. News & World Report. Forbes Magazine voted Washington University’s part-time MBA program as the 11th best in the nation for 2005. Financial Times Magazine named it the 10th best University for faculty research in the nation. The Scientist Magazine voted Washington University in St. Louis as the 2nd best university for post doctorate work in 2005.
Saint Louis University (SLU) was named among the top 100 U.S. universities and the top five U.S. Catholic universities by U.S. News & World Report. The magazine also ranked SLU law school’s health law program No. 1 in the nation and the Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology aerospace program was ranked No. 5 in the nation. The Princeton Review named Saint Louis University to its 2005 list of the 361 top institutions for undergraduate education.

PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS
There are 61 public school districts in the Missouri portion of the St. Louis region, and 69 public school districts on the Illinois side. On both sides of the metro, districts are funded by local tax levies. Although assessment ratios are different, the end result is the same: municipalities play a great role in the economic success of public schools in the St. Louis metro area. The local tax base of each school district funds new and existing educational programs and services, as well as provides maintenance and upkeep to the facilities.

The St. Louis metro area schools provide additional programs for gifted students, special programs for challenged students, and magnet or charter schools for children looking for a non-traditional learning environment.

PRIVATE AND PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS
The St. Louis metro region has a large number of options for private schooling. Many long-standing strong independent schools exist, as well as a strong parochial school network. The St. Louis region ranks among the highest in the nation for having one of the largest percentages of enrollment in Catholic parochial schools, as measured by the number of registered Catholics in the Metro area.
