Who’s Who,
What’s What in St. Louis offers a unique resource, a snapshot
of the St. Louis region and insight into its leaders, both business
and governmental, as well as the many attributes that make St. Louis
the attractive region that it is. This publication is the ultimate
reference guide for our region.
The Who’s Who sections feature the many individuals who are
committed to enhancing this region. Use it as a resource—connect
with the economic developers in the region, learn who is committed
to bringing more jobs and investment to the region, contact elected
officials in the Missouri or Illinois Legislatures regarding an
issue, discover who is driving the technology futures of our region
through the Technology Gateway Alliance. And if you want to get
involved yourself in the civic arena, call the staff of the RCGA
to help get you started.
The Who’s Who section is complemented by a What’s What
of the region. Here you can find an extensive profile of the region—including
demographics, taxes, economic development incentives, cost of living,
home price comparisons, attractions, education, work force and more.
You’ll find a valuable What’s What of information and statistics.
For instance, did you know the region boasts 7 Fortune corporate
headquarters and 15 Fortune 1000 headquarters and is tied
for 7th in the nation with Cleveland and Charlotte as a center of
Fortune 500 headquarters? Are you aware that this region claims
the 7th lowest cost of living and third most affordable housing
among major U.S. metropolitan areas? Or did you realize Missouri
has the lowest state and local taxes as a percentage of personal
income?
Here’s also where you’ll find the answers to all sorts of questions.
Need to know the population of the region (or a particular community
in it), the age distribution or its racial/ethnic/gender composition?
Which is the largest municipality? The enrollment of public versus
private schools? Wage rates for selected occupations or fastest-growing
occupations? The information is all right here, and we’ve sliced
it and diced for you.
The What’s What section also outlines the region’s key legislative
priorities for 2003, and the principles on which the RCGA and our
Forward Metro St. Louis partners will advocate for in the upcoming
legislative sessions.
Distributed throughout these sections is a sampling of photos and
quotations from civic and business leaders who have been featured
in St. Louis Commerce Magazine. It is their businesses, their
success stories, their business acumen, which makes this publication
the valuable source of business information that it is. And, their
entrepreneurial prowess illustrates to our readers, both inside
and outside the region, that opportunities abound here in the St.
Louis region.
As you peruse the following pages, see what information you can
glean from this first-of-its-kind resource guide. We hope that Who’s
Who, What’s What in St. Louis will be a useful tool you can
turn to throughout the year; we’ll look forward to your feedback.
Read it and reap.
