2004 Environmental
Excellence Award nominations requested
With the help of the RCGA, Choose Environmental Excellence—Gateway
Region (CEE-GR) recently launched the Environmental Excellence Business
Network (EEBN). The EEBN serves as a conduit for environmental managers
at area manufacturers to discuss common challenges and solutions
related to industry-specific environmental issues.
On September 24, 35 participants representing 18 companies attended
a meeting at the Daimler Chrysler North Plant, at which Plant Manager
Paul O’Neil and several of his senior environmental staff presented
an overview of manufacturing operations, followed by a tour of the
plant. Immediate feedback from attendees was very favorable, noting
the opportunity for creative interaction in a peer-to-peer format.
CEE-GR intends to facilitate three or four of these (manufacturers
only) events each year with a different business acting as host
for each luncheon. If you are interested in participating in the
EEBN, please contact CEE-GR’s Executive Director as indicated below.
In May 2004, CEE-GR will acknowledge Choose Environmental Excellence
Award winners at a banquet to honor those area businesses practicing
outstanding environmental stewardship. Choose Environmental Excellence
Awards are presented in both large and small business/industry categories.
In the previous four years, CEE-GR has honored such large companies
as Boeing; DuPont Flooring Systems; Energizer; General Motors Truck
Group–Wentzville Assembly Plant; Laclede Gas, and SSM Health Care;
some small businesses receiving awards were Bellon Wrecking and
Salvage Company; Cooper Bussmann–Ellisville Plant; Lighting Service,
Inc.; and Murray Print Shop.
CEE-GR will soon begin distributing nomination forms for the 2004
“Fifth Annual Environmental Excellence Awards.” “Area businesses
are encouraged to nominate themselves or others,” notes Larry Long,
Engineer Manager I at Anheuser-Busch Company and Board President
of CEE-GR. “This program is very worthwhile, as it not only celebrates
the good environmental deeds of area businesses but also reflects
a positive relationship between environmental and economic objectives.”
The CEE-GR newsletter will be distributed in February and will contain
the nomination form. If you are not on the mailing list to receive
the newsletter and would like to be added, please call the CEE-GR
office at (314) 962-4100 or email info@ceegr.org.
After the newsletter is distributed, the nomination form will be
displayed on the CEE-GR web site. You may print off the form by
accessing www.ceegr.org,
or you may simply call the office and request that staff mail a
form to you.
