BIZ
2.0 TALKS TO SBC'S GLOTZBACH
Included in interviews with “Tech’s Savviest Customers” was Edward
Glotzbach, chief information officer of SBC Communications. The
article appeared in the September 2002 issue of Business 2.0
(Biz 2.0). Glotzbach emphasized efficiency over “coolness.”
He heads an organization that merged three large companies [Ameritech,
Pacific Telesis and SNET] into SBC. The company decided it would
have only one information technology organization, which is SBC’s
worldwide IT function in St. Louis.
Among these organizations, Glotzbach’s division had many outsourced
projects. He told Biz 2.0 writer Thomas Stewart that “as
the economy has gotten Grinchier, there’s a shift from gadgetry
to what’s financially productive,” emphasizing that more than being
cool, technology solutions must demonstrate making a difference
in customer service before getting his attention or SBC’s dollars.
