ST. LOUIS' DELMAR LOOP SPOTLIGHTED AS "GREAT STREET"

Memphis Commercial Appeal and The Chicago Tribune both shared the recent Delmar Loop designation with readers.

Travel writer Sally Walker Davies explained on her blog for commercialappeal.com, “The American Planning Association recently named its list of the 10 Great Streets in North America, and St. Louis’ Delmar Loop made the cut. With a vibrant and eclectic shopping and dining scene, it’s one of those rare places where people of all backgrounds mix, and mix well. It’s where college students, young professionals, aging hipsters, dog walkers and corner-office types come together like few other spots I know of.”

Lauren Viera of chicagotribune.com posted, “’Thrown for a Loop: There is more than one famous Loop in the Midwest.’ St. Louis has one, too, and according to the American Planning Association’s latest report, it’s superior to ours.”

UNIGROUP AND ITS TRANSPORTATION COMPANIES NAMED ON TOP FOR-HIRE LISTS

UniGroup Inc., the parent company of United Van Lines, Mayflower Transit, and other transportation-related firms, has captured the No. 13 spot on the Transport Topics Top 100 For-Hire Carrier List for 2007. UniGroup moved up two spots from its No. 15 ranking on last year’s list.

TT Publishing Group publishes the list to document the size and scope of the largest trucking operations in the United States and Canada and to provide analysis of the trends shaping the industry.

The Commercial Carrier Journal has named UniGroup’s United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit on its Top 250 For-Hire Carriers List in the August 2007 issue. United Van Lines captured the No. 19 spot, maintaining last year’s placing, while Mayflower Transit ranked No. 47, up from No. 40 in 2005. The list of the 250 largest for-hire trucking companies is based on an analysis of revenue, equipment and employment.

ENTREPRENEUR MAGAZINE NAMES ADVANTAGE CAPITAL ONE OF TOP 100 VENTURE CAPITAL FIRMS

Entrepreneur magazine has recognized Advantage Capital as one of the nation's top venture capital firms for entrepreneurs for the second consecutive year. The list of 100 firms, published in the magazine's July issue, is based on the number of first-time fundings provided in 2006 to companies just starting up or in the early stages of development. Advantage is also included in the magazine’s list of top later-stage venture capital firms.

During 2006, Advantage provided funding to 42 companies, including Flying Fish Creative Services in Baton Rouge, La.; Waste Remedies in St. Louis; First American Vacuum Services in Beeville, Texas; and CreateHope in Washington, D.C.

The magazine noted that 799 startup and early-stage companies received an average of $4.1 million in funding for 2006. In total, venture capitalists invested $25.5 billion in 3,416 deals in 2006.

WALTON CONSTRUCTION’S HUNYAR FEATURED IN ENGINEERING NEWS-RECORD

Dan Hunyar, vice president of operations for Walton Construction St. Louis, is one of 16 professionals from around the world featured in Engineering News-Record’s July 16 cover story, "A Day in the Life is As Good as It Gets."

Sixteen reporters from the magazine literally spent a day in the life of 16 men and women in the construction industry. A reporter shadowed Hunyar on the job as he managed the $265 million Ameristar hotel and garage expansion in St. Charles, Mo. Hunyar has more than 35 years of experience in the construction industry and has been with Walton for five years.

INBOUND LOGISTICS MAGAZINE RECOGNIZES LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS AS A TOP 100 THIRD-PARTY LOGISTICS PROVIDER

Logistics Management Solutions has been named for the third time as a Top 100 3PL (third-party logistics provider) by Inbound Logistics, a nationally distributed magazine for logistics and transportation professionals. The magazine’s editors evaluated a variety of providers from around the country to compile the list. The chosen companies were listed alphabetically in the magazine’s July issue and are available online at www.inboundlogistics.com.

AMERISTAR EARNS 23 HONORS IN ANNUAL CASINO PLAYER AWARDS

Ameristar St. Charles earned a total of 23 top-three rankings in Casino Player magazine’s July 2007 “Best of Gaming” annual issue. The property earned seven first-place honors, including Best Cashback, Best Reel Slots, Best Video Slots, Best Video Poker, Best Craps and Best Roulette, in the highly coveted casino rankings.

In total, the casino’s awards included eight first-place wins, nine second-place wins and six third-place wins. In Missouri, Ameristar St. Charles and Ameristar Kansas City swept first- and second-place honors in 12 categories, including Best Overall Casino.

With a nationwide circulation of 600,000 casino patrons monthly, Casino Player is the most widely read and respected consumer gaming publication in the U.S.

BYRNE & JONES CONSTRUCTION HONORED BY MIDWEST CONSTRUCTION MAGAZINE

St. Louis-based Byrne & Jones Construction has been ranked as a top paving contractor in a four-state Midwest region in Midwest Construction magazine’s August 2007 issue. The firm earned the ranking among paving contractors in the magazine’s Top 2007 Specialty Contractors report, which covers Eastern Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. With 2006 revenue of $27 million, Byrne & Jones is the largest commercial paving contractor in metro St. Louis.

Midwest Construction is produced by The McGraw Hill Companies and is a sister publication of national trade publications Engineering News-Record and Architectural Record.

SSM HEALTH CARE-ST. LOUIS HONORED FOR SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Healthcare Purchasing News, a national magazine that covers the healthcare supply chain industry, has presented SSM Health Care-St. Louis with the Materials Management Department of the Year Award. The SSM Health Care-St. Louis team was chosen based on its supply chain performance in the areas of teamwork, innovation/creativity, savings to hospitals, originality, long-lasting results, contribution to quality care, productivity, efficiency and customer service. SIMON PASSANANTE LAWYER RECEIVES AWARD FROM MISSOURI BAR FOUNDATION

Amy Collignon Gunn, a lawyer at Simon Passanante, has received the prestigious Lon O. Hocker Award from the Missouri Bar Foundation. The Lon O. Hocker Awards were first established in 1954 by Mary B. Hocker in memory of her late husband. Each year the Missouri Bar Foundation recognizes three young lawyers who have demonstrated unusual proficiency in the art of trial advocacy. Gunn accepted the award on Sept. 28 at The Missouri Bar/Missouri Judicial Conference 2007 Annual Meeting.

Gunn has also been honored by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as a 2007 Up & Coming Lawyer. The recognition is awarded to attorneys under the age of 40 who have dedicated themselves to the legal profession and merit recognition. After receiving a record number of nominations, the publication’s editors chose 35 Missouri attorneys for the award.

U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT’S ANNUAL BEST COLLEGES ISSUE INCLUDES LOCAL COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES

The 2008 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges issue included six colleges and universities from the St. Louis area.

The International Business Program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis ranked among the top 20 undergraduate international business programs for the fifth consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report, claiming the No. 13 spot for 2008. UMSL’s program is the only international business program in Missouri that received a ranking, according to the university.

SLU’S ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM RANKED AMONG THE BEST BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT AND FORTUNE SMALL BUSINESS

With recent honors from Fortune Small Business and U.S. News & World Report, Saint Louis University became the only school in Missouri to hold simultaneous top-tier national rankings for undergraduate and MBA-level entrepreneurship programs, according to the university.

Fortune Small Business included SLU's program in its listing of the top 25 entrepreneurship programs for undergraduates in its September 2007 issue. U.S. News & World Report has also ranked the undergraduate program No. 21 in the United States. In the spring of 2007, the entrepreneurship graduate program ranked No. 27 in the country in the magazine’s graduate school rankings.

STANDING PARTNERSHIP AND TECHNISONIC APPEAR ON INC. 5000

Inc. magazine has ranked St. Louis-based Technisonic and Standing Partnership on its first-ever Inc. 5,000, a list of the fastest-growing private companies in the country. Companies are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2003 through 2006.

Standing Partnership ranked No. 3,244 with 96.4 percent growth in revenue over the past three years, making it the fastest-growing public relations firm in Missouri on the list. The firm also ranked No. 31 among Inc. 5,000 companies in the St. Louis region.

Technisonic ranked No. 4,929 on the overall list and No. 61 in St. Louis. Technisonic has experienced 24 percent growth in the last three years and now boasts 27 employees and revenue of $5.4 million. The full-service production company specializes in HDTV, film, radio, DVD and interactive projects.

ST. LOUIS FIRMS VOTED IN TOP FIVE BEST LOCAL CORPORATE LAW FIRMS

Armstrong Teasdale LLP and Bryan Cave LLP were selected by corporate directors as one of the No. 1-ranked corporate law firms in St. Louis. Corporate Board Member and FTI surveyed the directors of publicly traded U.S. corporations to determine the top 20 corporate law firms in America and the best firms in 25 major cities. Other St. Louis firms listed include: Thompson Coburn LLP (No. 3), Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP (No. 4) and Lewis Rice & Fingersh LC tied with Greensfelder Hemker & Gale PC (No. 5). They are featured in the 2007 Special Legal Issue of Corporate Board Member.

SAINT LOUIS SCIENCE CENTER NAMED ONE OF AMERICA’S 25 MOST VISITED MUSEUMS

Forbes Traveler has named the Saint Louis Science Center as one of America’s 25 Most Visited Museums. The Science Center is the only Missouri museum to make the list, which is based on 2006 visitor counts, with the Science Center’s totaling more than 1.2 million.

Joining the Saint Louis Science Center on the list (www.forbestraveler.com) are many of the Smithsonian Institute’s 19 museums; the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.; the Metropolitan Museum in New York City; the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston; The J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center in Los Angeles; and the Field Museum in Chicago. The American Association of Museums estimates that there are approximately 600 million visits to U.S. museums annually.

Science Center President Doug King notes, “We’re honored to be included on such a prestigious listing as the Forbes Traveler Top 25. Not only are we among the top five Science Centers in the country, now we rank among the top overall museums.”

ENTERPRISE COO NAMED TO FORTUNE'S TOP 50 WOMEN IN BUSINESS LIST

Pam Nicholson, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, has been named to FORTUNE’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business 2007 list. Nicholson is the only St. Louisan on the list, and the only person from a St. Louis-based company.

FORTUNE ranked these women at for-profit companies based on the size, importance, and health of their business in the global economy; career momentum; and social and cultural influence. The list appears in the October 15 issue of FORTUNE.

Rounding out the top ten are: Anne Mulcahy, Chairman and CEO, Xerox (No. 2); Meg Whitman, President and CEO, EBay (No. 3); Angela Braly, President and CEO, Wellpoint (No. 4); Irene Rosenfeld, Chairman and CEO, Kraft Foods (No. 5); Pat Woertz, Chairman, CEO, and President, Archer Daniels Midland (No. 6); Susan Arnold, President, Global Business Units, Procter & Gamble (No. 7); Oprah Winfrey, Chairman, Harpo (No. 8); Andrea Jung, Chairman and CEO, Avon Products (No. 9); and Brenda Barnes, Chairman and CEO, Sara Lee (No. 10).

Nicholson is one of thirteen new arrivals added to the 2007 FORTUNE list.
