During his tenure, Griggs has been responsible for directing and coordinating the operations at the airport with a workforce of more than 600 people. One of his most notable accomplishments is spearheading the $1.1 billion runway expansion program. Under his leadership, the new runway is projected to open under budget and on time in 2006. St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay praised Griggs for serving the city with “dedication and distinction” and noted that he “led the airport through good times and bad.”
“Airport expansion was an extraordinarily difficult undertaking,” Slay says. “But because of Colonel Griggs, it is projected to come in on time and on budget. W-1W will be his legacy.”
Before joining Lambert, Griggs retired as a colonel from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of active service. He received numerous honors during his military career, including the Silver Star for Valor, four Distinguished Flying Crosses, and the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in South Vietnam. He is a West Point graduate and has master’s degrees in aeronautical engineering and international affairs. |
