Technology Lights Up the Arch
Above:
Construction work to illuminate the Arch is expected to be completed
by year’s end.
Kaiser Electric Inc., which has been awarded the contract to illuminate
the Gateway Arch at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, is
using invisible trench methods to minimize disturbance of the park
grounds. The arch project is expected to be complete by the end
of the year and includes excavation on each side of the Arch’s two
legs. Eight-foot deep concrete vaults will house the high-intensity
lighting.
Midwest Trenching is working with Kaiser on one phase of the project.
To avoid disturbing existing utilities or landscaping, the contractors
are using directional bore technology. This allows the distribution
of conduit and cable under the surface and to work more efficiently.
