RCGA Economic Development Efforts Pay Off

Unigraphics Solutions "Tops Off" New Facility, Nearly 400 Jobs Retained with 150 More to Come

St. Louis-based Unigraphics Solutions (UGS), a computer software developer with global operations, "topped off" its new 135,000-square-foot corporate administration building recently at the Riverport Business Center.

The RCGA collaborated with the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the St. Louis County Economic Council on this key business retention and expansion initiative. The St. Louis region won out in a head-to-head competition with locations in southern California, Dallas-Ft. Worth, and Detroit. This economic development win means the retention of nearly 400 jobs with the addition of some 150 new jobs.

A two-time winner of the St. Louis Regional Fast 50 Technology Award presented annually by the RCGA and Deloitte & Touche, Unigraphics Solutions recently donated more than $1 million in equipment and support to the Cornerstone Partnership, a Wellston-based public/private venture providing an innovative, collaborative, high-tech training facility and skilled manpower for the manufacturing industry in the St. Louis region.

GPX, Inc. Deal Caps Off Two-Year Effort by RCGA, Economic Development Partners

GPX, Inc., a St. Louis-based consumer audio electronics company announced last month that it would consolidate its current headquarters and distribution facilities in north St. Louis City and in High Hill, Mo., to the St. Louis Commerce Center Business Park, a six-city-block area adjacent to 20th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, developed by Balke Brown Associates. The RCGA, the State of Missouri and partnering economic development organizations had worked together on this project for nearly two years.

RCGA Senior Vice President of Economic Development Ronnie Bryant originally met with officials of GPXÕ parent company, Netherlands-based Hagemeyer, as part of a State-led investment mission to Europe two years ago. Bryant subsequently worked with local GPX officials, who wanted to consolidate company operations and plan for future expansion. GPX currently has approximately 80 employees, with plans to add at least 20 more when the company moves into its new facility next June.
