The 1999 Gateway Site Selection Conference, sponsored by the RCGA, recently attracted more than 15 national site consultants considering St. Louis for their corporate clients, as well as a number of individual prospects in the final stages of making decisions.
The Conference was part of the RCGA’s continuing national economic development marketing program of the region. The RCGA assembled an all-star line-up of St. Louis area business, civic and elected leaders (including national sportscaster Bob Costas, and former baseball Cardinal greats Bob Gibson and Lou Brock) to participate in the important economic development initiative. Cardinals Chairman and RCGA Board member Fred Hanser served as Chairman of the conference, along with a conference steering committee comprised of several members of the RCGA Board.
Presenters included St. Louis County Executive Buzz Westfall; recently-recruited Saint Louis Art Museum Executive Director Brent Benjamin; MasterCard International Senior Vice President of Member Services Mike Manchisi; Donald Danforth Plant Science Center President Dr. Roger Beachy, who presented his vision for the St. Louis region as the nation’s leading center for life sciences; and RCGA President and Chief Executive Officer Dick Fleming.
Other featured events during the two-day site conference included helicopter tours of sites throughout the region, a commercial real estate expert panel, and a Friday night Cardinals vs. the Chicago Cubs game at Busch Stadium.
