MARIAN MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER WINS 2008 LOEB PRIZE FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE

Emilie Grimi, a math teacher at Marian Middle School in St. Louis, has been awarded the 2008 Saint Louis Science Center/Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Prize for Excellence in Teaching Science & Mathematics. Four other St. Louis area teachers, all finalists for the prize, were recognized as well:

Mary Ann Bommarito, science and math at St. Joan of Arc School in St. Louis

Ginger Johnson, science and chemistry at O'Fallon Township High School in O'Fallon, Ill.

Steven Kuensting, biology at St. Louis University High School in St. Louis

Callie McAleenan, science at St. Louis Charter School in St. Louis

The Loeb Prize rewards teachers who significantly enhance their students' performances in the areas of science and mathematics.

MASTERCARD WORLDWIDE'S NEW CTO

Mike Manchisi has been appointed chief technology officer of MasterCard Worldwide. He succeeds Rob Reeg, who recently was appointed president of MasterCard Global Technology & Operations after serving as interim president since January.

Manchisi a MasterCard veteran for 21 years, most recently was group executive, MasterCard Strategic Account Management.

In his new role, Manchisi is responsible for leading the company in the areas of computer infrastructure and operations, network engineering, customer support, processing solutions and service definition and customer technology relationship management.

SSM HEALTH CARE'S RYAN HONORED AT AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR QUALITY CONFERENCE

Sister Mary Jean Ryan, president/CEO of SSM Health Care, received the Joseph M. Juran Medal for distinguished performance in quality leadership from the American Society for Quality at its annual conference in Houston.

The Juran Medal is presented to an individual who exhibits distinguished performance in a sustained role as an organizational leader, personally practicing the key principles of quality and demonstrating breakthrough management.

TOENJES APPOINTED TO MISSOURI WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD

Len Toenjes, president of the Associated General Contractors of St. Louis, has been selected by Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt to join the new Missouri Workforce Investment Board. The board provides policy direction to the governor for issues related to workforce development.

SPENCER FANE ADDS LIFE SCIENCES TO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY GROUP

Spencer Fane Britt and Browne LLP has added a life sciences component to its intellectual property group by hiring Kevin W. Buckley and Gale W. Starkey.

Buckley, a biochemist and an attorney, joined the firm as a partner. He earned his law degree in 2000 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Starkey, a chemist, is the first non-attorney employed by the firm who will serve in a client-consulting capacity. He will be a scientific advisor for the firm's intellectual property group, specializing in chemistry, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

CAPITAL FOR BUSINESS NAMES NEW SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT

Capital For Business Inc., the private equity subsidiary of Commerce Bancshares Inc., has promoted William S. Witzofsky to senior vice president. Witzofsky has been with the firm since 1997, most recently serving as vice president.

UMB HIRES DOBKINS AS SENIOR VP IN INVESTMENT BANKING

Olen Dobkins has joined UMB Financial Corporation as a senior vice president in the investment banking division. Dobkins has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, most recently serving as a producing sales manager at Banc of America Securities LLC in St. Louis.

YMCA ELECTS BOARD CHAIRWOMAN AND NEW MEMBERS

YWCA Metro St. Louis has announced the election of banking executive Sara Foster as chairwoman of the board of directors. Foster is senior vice president and director of support group services for Commerce Bancshares Inc.

In addition, the following new members were elected to three-year terms on the board of directors: Valerie Bell, attorney; Jackie Dippel, partner at KPMG LLP; Rosezetta Eichelberger, independent travel agent for VacationsR.Us LLC; Merry Mosbacher, principal in insurance marketing for Edward Jones; and Jane Wulf, chief administrative officer for Scottrade Inc.

The following individuals were elected to additional three-year terms on the board: Peggy Guest, senior consultant at The Cramer Institute; Gail Brown, president at Brown-Kortkamp Realty; Karen Drake, director of human resources and organizational development at Saint Louis University; and Shelley Roither, assistant vice president, employment counsel at Enterprise Rent-A-Car Company.

NATIONAL CITY PRIVATE CLIENT GROUP NAMES HARVEY BRANDVEIN VP AND INSURANCE SPECIALIST

National City Corporation has hired Harvey Brandvein as vice president-insurance specialist for its private client group. Most recently, Brandvein served as sales director of the National City Insurance Group.

OGLETREE DEAKINS RECRUITS PROMINENT ATTORNEYS

Three prominent local lawyers have joined Ogletree Deakins as shareholders. Rodney Harrison, formerly a partner at Thompson Coburn LLP, represents employers in employment-related litigation.

James M. Paul, formerly a partner at Lathrop & Gage LC, has extensive experience in handling labor and employment litigation.

R. Lance Witcher, formerly a partner at Husch Blackwell Sanders LLP, has experience providing legal counsel to employers on matters involving discrimination, wage and hour, harassment, disability, and workplace safety claims.

MIDCOAST AVIATION'S SUTTERER ELECTED VICE CHAIRMAN OF NATA

Kurt Sutterer, president of Midcoast Aviation, has been named vice chairman of the National Air Transportation Association for the 2008-2009 term. He is slated to become chairman of NATA for the 2009-2010 term.

BUSINESS FINANCE CORPORATION WELCOMES FOUR MEMBERS TO BOARD

Jeff Sheldon has joined law firm Evans & Dixon LLC as chief information officer and is responsible for information technology in all of the firm's offices. For the past 10 years, Sheldon served as information systems director for Builder's Bloc, a subsidiary of McBride & Son Companies.

ST. LOUIS CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY HONORS SCHAEFER FOR SERVICE AS PRIDE OWNER CO-CHAIR

PRIDE of St. Louis Inc. has honored Rick Schaefer for his outstanding commitment, leadership and service as PRIDE owner co-chair. He recently completed four years of volunteer service as PRIDE co-chairman, representing buyers of construction services. Schaefer is director of department planning and capital projects for the Malinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine.

GRAYBAR VP NAMED TO TELECOMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION BOARD

Graybar has announced that Michael C. Dumas, vice president comm/data business, recently joined the Telecommunications Industry AssociationÕs board of directors. Dumas and his fellow board members will provide direction and guidance to the association over a three-year term.

Prior to becoming vice president of Graybar's communications and data business in 2005, Dumas held a variety of management positions at the company in corporate accounts, electrical sales and finance.

FOX GALVIN NAMES LUCAS PARTNER

Ted Lucas and Terry R. Lueckenhoff have joined Fox Galvin LLC as partners. Lucas has 18 years of experience as a trial attorney with an emphasis on maritime, commercial, municipal and zoning law.

Lueckenhoff graduated from the Washington University School of Law in 1977 and has extensive trial and appellate litigation experience in defense of products liability cases.

SKAGGS PROMOTED TO VP OF SAFETY AT MURPHY COMPANY

Tom Skaggs has been promoted to vice president of safety at Murphy Company. Skaggs, who joined the company in 1991, is responsible for the oversight and direction of the safety process.

FLORES JOINS MIDLAND STATES BANK AS MARKET PRESIDENT

Tom Flores has joined Midland States Bank as president of the Chesterfield market. Flores joins the company with 11 years of experience at a multibillion-dollar financial institution, with the last six years spent as treasury management regional sales manager.

GRAYBAR'S MAZZARELLA JOINS NAW INSTITUTE BOARD

Kathleen M. Mazzarella, senior vice president—sales and marketing, comm/data at Graybar, has been elected to the board of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors Institute for Distribution Excellence. The NAW Institute board is a hybrid organization including 15 additional representatives from companies in the wholesale distribution industry and associations that serve wholesale distributors.

MISSOURI VALLEY PARTNERS NAMES NEW PRESIDENT

Greg Glidden has been appointed president of Missouri Valley Partners Inc., an affiliate of First Banks Inc. Prior to being appointed president; Glidden served as director of equity research for the company's large-cap and small-cap products as well as a medical/healthcare analyst.

COUNCIL OF DEVELOPMENT FINANCE AGENCIES NAMES PALANK BOARD CHAIRMAN

The Council of Development Finance Agencies has elected Richard M. Palank as their new board chairman. Palank has served on the council's board since 2002, most recently as vice chairman. He is the senior vice president of St. Louis County Economic Council's business finance division and also serves as the president and CEO of the Business Finance Corporation of St. Louis County.

GEOTECHNOLOGY CHIEF ELECTED PRESIDENT OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LEADING ENGINEERING FIRMS

Edmond D. "Ed" Alizadeh, president and CEO of Geotechnology Inc., is the new president of ASFE/The Best People on Earth. ASFE is a not-for-profit association of "earth-engineering" firms that develops programs, services and materials for its member firms.
