Vaughn Vandegrift has been selected as the new chancellor of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville effective July 1. He was chosen by President James E. Walker and approved by the board of trustees after a national search. Vandegrift comes to SIUE from Georgia Southern University, where he served as provost and vice president for academic affairs and chief information officer since 2000. Prior to becoming provost at Georgia Southern, Vandegrift spent 12 years as dean of the college of science and mathematics and tenured professor of chemistry at Montclair State University in New Jersey.

Peter Sortino, president of St. Louis 2004 for the past four years, has been named the new president of the Danforth Foundation, beginning Jan. 1, 2005. He will succeed Bruce Anderson, the Foundation’s president since 1991, who announced in November that he would retire at the end of this year. St. Louis 2004 is scheduled to end its work on Dec. 31.
Under Sortino’s leadership, St. Louis 2004 has collaborated over the past several years with various civic institutions and individuals on behalf of the region through the 2004 Action Plan. Initiatives included: Downtown Revitalization; Clean Water, Safe Parks and Community Trails; Workforce Diversity; Sustainable Neighborhoods; Minority and Women-Owned Business Growth; and 21st Century Technologies.
Sortino, a former St. Louis city official, joined St. Louis 2004 as vice president in October 1996. He took over as president in December 1999.
