FIVE ST. LOUIS-AREA FIRMS MAKE BUSINESSWEEK “HOT GROWTH” LIST
BusinessWeek included five St. Louis-area companies on its list of top 100 “Hot Growth Companies” in the magazine’s June 7 issue. With five firms ranked in the Top 100, St. Louis is ranked No.1—tied only with New York—and ahead of such entrepreneurial powerhouses as Atlanta, Austin, Texas, San Francisco, Boston, Denver, and Seattle.
Reliv International ranked highest among area companies at No. 28; Panera Bread Co. ranked No. 30; Engineered Support Systems Inc. ranked No. 33; K-V Pharmaceutical ranked No. 95; and Young Innovations ranked No. 96.
Rankings were compiled based on companies’ three-year results in sales growth, earnings growth and return on invested capital. The cover story features a sidebar story on St. Louis’s Engineered Support Systems, including an interview with CEO Jerry Daniels.
BusinessWeek observes, “It’s no small feat to spot a great business opportunity in today’s fast-changing economy. Building a sustainable enterprise from that insight is even tougher. It requires speed, flexibility, innovation and at least a little luck to thrive in the face of relentless competition. This year’s annual Hot Growth list of America’s fastest growing small companies reveals an impressive lineup that has mastered that high-stakes game.”

Walton Construction is the general contractor for Harrah’s 11-story, 209-room hotel expansion in Maryland Heights. The company has worked with national retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Galyan’s and Target.
ZAGAT RANKS ST. LOUIS ATTRACTIONS AMONG NATION’S BEST
St. Louis is home to some of the country’s best attractions, says Zagat Survey’s U.S. Family Travel Guide. The results are featured in an article by writer Diane Toroian Keaggy in the May 24 issue of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The Magic House in Kirkwood was rated No. 1 among national attractions with the most child appeal, beating out both Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., and Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Fla. The St. Louis Zoo and Grant’s Farm ranked No. 4 and No. 7, respectively, among the top 10 overall attractions in the country.
The travel guide publisher polled approximately 11,000 travelers on 1,000 family attractions for child appeal, adult appeal, public facilities and service. |
