The St. Louis region and its companies make the national news.

NATIONAL PUBLICATION FEATURES THE LAWRENCE GROUP'S WORK ON THE EMMIS COMMUNICATIONS "POWERHOUSE"

RadioInk magazine named Emmis Communications’ “Powerhouse” building at St. Louis Union Station as one of the “World’s Best Radio Facilities.” Featured in the April 28, 2003 issue of the publication, the facility houses Emmis’ five St. Louis FM stations, KSHE, KPNT, KIHT, KFTK and WMLL.

Emmis worked with The Lawrence Group to create an interior in which each area of the facility has its own identity. The design team used the original ceiling at different levels to create visual interest. The building’s main entrance features large double doors with “Powerhouse” etched in stone above them. Upon entering, visitors encounter two on-air studios, one with full glass exposure.

“What was originally a two-station facility is now a five-station facility,” noted Sam Caputa, chief engineer of Emmis Communications. “We’ve been able to use the space efficiently to make a very workable situation, rather than a squeezed, comprised facility.”

The exterior of the “Powerhouse” building is a replica of the old Union Electric Railroad power generating station, including the original smokestack. Inside is a technical complex, which includes the studios, seven production rooms, central rack room and programming offices. An administrative area houses conference rooms and manage- ment offices.

“We really wanted to design a space that was functional for business purposes, but also original to coincide with the feel and character of Emmis Communications and its employees,” said Bridget Bogan, The Lawrence Group senior associate.

ST. CHARLES COUNTY FEATURED WITH OTHER NATIONAL COMMUNITIES IN TWO NATIONAL MAGAZINES

St. Charles County garnered national attention recently in two feature articles on the rising popularity of mixed-use developments.

“Over The Boomburb Rainbow,” the cover story in the May issue of Plants, Sites & Parks focuses on today’s corporate environment of “businesses following the workers,” and discusses St. Charles County along with other prominent national collar counties such as Arlington, Texas; Anaheim, Calif.; Henderson, Nev.; and Tucson, Ariz.

The April issue of Real Estate Forum also featured St. Charles County with other prominent communities nationally such as Houston, Texas.; Washington, D.C.; and Sarasota, Fla. “Mastering The Master-Planned Project” highlights WingHaven and MasterCard International’s Global Technology and Processing Center, which is home to more than 2,000 information technology professionals.

St. Charles County—which has added 12 new jobs a day for a decade—was ranked among the fastest growing areas in the U.S. and according to the 2002 U.S. Census has accounted for 61 percent of the population growth for the 12-county greater St. Louis metropolitan bi-state area.
