RCGA
Chairman John Bachmann led a group of RCGA Public Policy Council
members to Washington, D.C. in June for a series of individual
meetings with each of the members and key staff of the region’s
bi-state Congressional delegation.
Traveling to Washington in June were: RCGA Public Policy Council
Chairman Mark Johnston, Chief Government Affairs Council for Alliance
Blue Cross/Blue Shield; Korte Construction Vice President Ron
Capek; SSM Health Care Vice President of Government Affairs Steve
Hoven; Emerson Electric Vice President of Government Affairs Perry
Roberts; Tri-City Ports District Executive Director Bob Wydra;
RCGA Senior Vice President Jim Farrell; Director of Missouri Government
Affairs Gordon Reel; and Director of Illinois Government Affairs
John Valenti.
Key topics of discussion over the two-day period included: advocating
enhanced federal funding for both the National Science Foundation
(NSF) and the National Institutes for Health (NIH) for research
and development; Community Redevelopment legislation to benefit
the region’s center city; restoration of Federal Historic Tax
Credits; reuse of the Melvin Price Support Center as part of the
Tri-City Ports District; and continued support for Scott Air Force
Base and its relationship with MidAmerica Airport.
This year’s smaller delegation meeting with our Congressional
delegation will be complemented in alternating years by the 100-person-plus
delegation from St. Louis meeting with Congressional and Administration
leaders.
